ok mall / street rats.....what millage are you without doing the shock rebuild?

will hit 50k miles this winter. my truck is a street rat, been off road 2 or 3x with nothing too extreme. No leaks in my shocks and the ride is still great.

Do I just keep with the factory build until I notice a change in ride or visual shock leakage?

I would say a lot of that would depend on what your plans are for the shocks. They are more or less meant to be a rebuildable item that gets serviced. If you don’t mind buying new ones down the road and the ride quality is still good then you could probably stretch the rebuild interval. If you want to keep your current shocks in good condition then I’d say you are pretty close to rebuilding them.

If you stretch it out you will likely see more damage to the internals then you would with a more frequent rebuild schedule. Then again a lot of that depends on if dirt is getting in there, how broke down the fluid is, how good the wear band looks, etc.

If I recall correctly fox says 50,000 miles with street only.

What is the consensus on how to handle the 3-ish weeks of downtime from sending them to Fox? I got that turnaround time from the 2.0s I just sent in for another truck.

If your Raptor is street only/mostly, the shocks are not leaking, and you aren’t noticing any degradation in performance—I would not bother with rebuild/service.

On pavement you aren’t scratching the surface of what the suspension is designed to do. I doubt you’ll notice any change in street performance over the next 50k miles.

I’m at 57k and my Raptor is my commuter vehicle and family mule (mild off-road 4x/year). Once every 4-6 weeks, I put my cars/trucks on the lift and check the undercarriages thoroughly (including the suspension). If I don’t see any leaks/seepage and can’t detect any change in the ride—I carry on. I’ve no doubt that I’ll cross 100k without noticing a thing—given my performance needs.

NOTE: I’m more concerned with degraded suspension performance in my vehicles that I push/run hard and tow with vs. the ones that loaf along.

Hope this helps as I’m sure the opinions will be all over the charts—as we all use our Raptors differently.
