Hey everyone! So this is not the typical no sound coming out issue... Hoping someone can steer me with the troubleshooting.

2011, my radio power went dead. I matched up the radio head unit product code with an eBay one and power came back, it appears to be grabbing station signal(also tested syrius and line aux) but no sound.... HOWEVER, i did the 3 and 6 button speaker walk thru test and all speakers had good sound.(I've tried battery and master reset)

For someone experienced in ford's audio system.... What does this mean that the speaker test worked? To get sound from the speaker test does that mean my ACM and under console amp is working and I can rule them out? Since I swapped head units, do I have to have FORD or thar guy off FB send me the code specific to my VIN and upload it through OBDII via FORScan?

Thanks!

What component did you replace? I see you stated ACM, but the picture is the Front Controls Interface Module (FDIM). The ACM is behind that, and the APIM is above it, inside the top of the dash. All 3 modules require programming if they are replaced, which requires Ford IDS.

Hey fordtech, I only replaced the main console which I think you call the front interface fdim(attached picture). So if I swapped it out, but I'm getting all power and function(can tune stations, switch between syrius/aux/etc, volume increase/decrease), then you are saying I need to take to the dealer to tell them I need all 3 modules reprogrammed and linked together for my vin?(am I staying that correct so I can ask for the right service)

I had assumed since it didn't pull up on the lcd a theft deterant system notice or like other cars where it prompts for the code, that it was interfacing fine. What confused me was why the speaker walk thru test produced sound

The second picture you posted is the ACM. To clarify, only the module that was replaced needs to be programmed. So in your case, the ACM. I can’t guarantee that will solve your original issue, but without it being programmed it’s inconclusive as to whether the ACM was root cause.

What's your opinion on the walk through sound test working. In my mind the only way signal can get there is through the radio main unit. So if it passes signal, thru the acm and amp to speakers then that should rule out the ACM and amp right?

I apologize for the tangent, but I'm in a similar no sound scenario. I have BCM issues, so I think that's it, but how do you do this speaker test? First I have heard of it.

Hey, no worries let's work together on this one. Turn on the car and radio, set to radio tuner. Press and hold the three and six preset and it will automatically start the sound test

The modules themselves can most likely be ruled out. However, an issue such as voltage on the start sense circuit will mute all audio, but the speaker walk around test will likely over rods that since it’s a diagnostic procedure.

Here’s some additional diagnostics you can reference.

Audio Systems Without Navigation

NOTE:
If the Audio Front Control Module (ACM) is inoperable the ACM part number may be obtained from a label affixed to the chassis.

  1. Turn the ACM on.
  1. Operate the audio system in radio tuner (AM/FM) mode.
  1. Press and hold preset buttons 3 and 6 for 3 seconds until the speaker walk test begins.
    • The display indicates each speaker as it is tested.
  1. NOTE: If the speaker walk test is the only test required, this procedure can be stopped after Step 3 by turning the ACM off.
Before the speaker walk test is complete, carry out any of the following actions:

    Preset Button Press
    Diagnostic Function
    Display
    Diagnostic Function Description
1 ACM Self-Test SELF TEST The ACM carries out a self-test. At the end of the self-test, the display either indicates SELF PASS or scrolls through any DTCs present. Note that the self-test may not indicate all DTCs that are present. If additional DTCs are suspected, retrieve continuous and on-demand DTCs using the scan tool.
2 View DTCs NO DTCS, or scrolls through DTCs The ACM or FDIM displays any DTCs that are present. To scroll through the DTCs, press the TUNE UP button. If no DTCs are present, the display reads NO DTCS.
3 AM/FM Antenna Signal Strength SIGNAL ### The ACM or FDIM displays the AM/FM antenna signal strength. To run this test, the audio system should be in AM radio tuner mode before entering the ACM self-diagnostic mode.
4 Software Levels SOFT LEVELS The ACM or FDIM displays software levels for various components of the audio system. Knowing the software levels may not aid diagnostics. Press the TUNE UP button to scroll through the software levels.
5 Display Test DISPLAY TEST, then all segments illuminate All of the ACM or FDIM display segments illuminate.
6 Retrieve ACM Part Number RADIO CONFIG The ACM or FDIM displays the ACM part number and various configuration levels. Press the TUNE UP button to scroll to the desired function.
  1. To exit the self-diagnostic mode, turn the ACM off.

Ah... Thanks for the advice! Looks like I can rule out the amp and maybe acm but focus on why signal is being sent.sounds like no matter what I need Ford to do the 150 vin programming. May try the FB guy who sends me an executibe file for obdio....but Will go from there
