Is the Drive Mode switch/function just a dumb-dumb switch for people that don't know what to select for their truck for different terrains or is there additional function/programming in the mode that the truck uses when in those modes? I find its just easier to select my suspension settings and 4hi/lo when I need it. I do like how Baja mode will keep the camera activated though—or is there a way to keep the camera activated in normal mode?

Safe to assume you haven’t gone to Raptor Assault yet lol. The different modes actually alter various systems depending on what you select. I get it. But what seems like just “a fancy list of options” proves to be extremely useful once you take the truck somewhere like Moab and let it show you. I’m in Florida which means off roading is equivalent to going over an unexpected speed hump. I’ve driven out to Moab twice. Everything looks great on paper but not until you are 9000 feet above elevation inches from thousand foot drop offs (while rehearsing how you are going to explain to Geico that your Raptor ended up in a ravine) do you really come to appreciate just how capable Raptors are. And it’s a process trust me. It’s one thing to read about trail control and driving modes, and a whole other ball game to actually see and come to trust that she will get you up and she will bring you back down and it’s truly incredible. And if you haven’t been to Raptor Assault you should go. Not only do you get to abuse and jump Ford’s Raptors but those instructors will teach you and then let you put all of the driving modes to work.

And aside from keeping the camera activated (the least of what matters)..Baja for example keeps the turbochargers spinning for up to three seconds after the driver backs off the throttle, allowing for faster resumption of acceleration out of corners or between gears when you get back on it.

So yeah. Certainly not just a fancy dial.

I mean have you used them at all yet?

Normal mode is boring mode. Throttle response is limited, and shifts happen smooth.

Sport mode engages more than driving dynamics but other computer components you can't see. Longer shifts, quicker acceleration etc.

Slippery mode is actually another favorite.. it keeps you out of the turbos and really reduces the power, not just the throttle input. I honestly which I could put Slippery mode into 2wd and put exhaust into quiet mode I think that would almost equate to a eco mode but with 4wd Auto always on it doesn't quite work as well.

Rock crawl mode and Baja really change the whole truck into another beast. You don't really know what these modes do until you use them as intended but when you do use them as intended you'll have a new level of appreciation for the tool you bought.

Thanks for all the info. Had no idea they programmed all that in there. Just did Alpine Loop in Colorado (which is a fairly easy trail) yesterday and never even took it out of 2WD except for 2 hairpin uphill turns that were muddy and I lost traction. Excited to try the modes on something more challenging.

A bucket list for me is to do Alpine loop and the trail that takes you down into Ouray. Love that part of Colorado!

Set up Basecamp in Durango and you will be in 4x4 Heaven. Stay at Purgatory in the summer, half the price of places in town and lots of activities for the kids at the Ski Resort.

Right on. Thanks for the intel. I’m not far from that glory here in AZ. Definitely planning a trip
