Long tube headers

What was cost of installation shops around me are insane lowest I was quoted was $900 all the way up to 1600$ SW long tubes and mid pipes on gen 1
I forget exactly - I wound up having my cousin do it. However I did get a couple quotes first and they were in that range. It's a lot of work to put a full system on one of these.

Since you’ve got yours done have you noticed a sound difference in tone or sound level?

Well, there's a question of relativity. Do mean versus stock? Here was my progression. I went from stock to an AFE cold air intake. That actually made it sound a bit throatier (stock exhaust at the time). Then I went to a supercharger and a Magnaflow cat back. That made a drastic difference - much more of a throaty V8. More cab noise, but not terrible drone. Then I beefed up the supercharger and went to full dual exhaust. The truck is louder, but not horrible like some. It definitely has more cab noise, but it's so consistent that the truck is known for lulling people to sleep when driving. It sounds nasty on a cold start. I'm honestly not one for super loud exhausts - I'm about functionality, and sometimes that comes with some increased noise. So, knowing that I'm not a ALL THE NOISE IN THE EXHAUST kinda guy, I'd say my truck is at the edge of where I'd want it. My wife is ok with it too, and she wouldn't like obnoxious. Now, compared to stock it's WAY louder.

Just got them installed sounds amazing but hearing a lot of exhaust noise from the front end wondering if that’s just a symptom of long tubes or a leak

Any time I've had a leak there was a lot of tick associated with it, especially when I drove next to concrete borders in the road. Exhaust note is probably just the exhaust, but post a video with sound if you like.

I’m hoping it is but at idle I do hear some tick, whilst driving exhaust is too loud to determine whether there is a tick or not, instead it makes a hissing or wind blowing type nose from the front end.

The shop only used the exhaust putty to seal the headers are you supposed to reuse the stock gaskets?

Stainless Works recommends and provided high temp sealant with their headers, but my shop did not feel comfortable using only sealant and used some Felpro header gaskets instead. I also provided Stage 8 locking header bolts in place of the provided bolts to eliminate the likelihood of anything coming loose since the install is such a PITA. I’m running ceramic coated Stainless Works 1-7/8” headers with the optional GESI UHO cats and haven’t had any issues with leaks based on my fuel trims even with a Gen 4 Whipple supercharger.

The whoosh sound could be either intake or exhaust depending on your setup. Ticking can be multiple things including a evap canister purge valve going bad, typical fuel injector sounds, or loose header flange.

Wow thanks for the info I ended up jus looking at the exhaust and seeing where the leak is seems the shop did not tighten the clamp enough the hfc have a huge gap in them looks almost like it could come off!! Called the shop said they’d fix free of charge
