Acceleration response time

The other day was the first time I’ve ever fully went from sitting idle to full throttle, “pedal to the metal” and was shocked at how much lag time until it responded (with great power I might add). I’m glad I now know how much time to give myself the next time, because I was pulling out of a traffic jam and going into an unused offramp lane and saw a truck coming from behind but with plenty of space for me to get out in front so i thought I’ll punch it and be well in ahead, but when it seemed like forever to respond kinda scared me a bit cause I thought uh oh i didnt want to pull out in front of this guy. At the last second power kicked in and i was out in front with no problem. Is this normal to have a momentary non response, what can be done to make acceleration more responsive? I‘ve had this 2020 for year n a half and I’m not racing anybody so I guess not to important just curious though.

I found rolling into throttle quickly works best vs. just punching it to the floor , you will get a lag but i think its more of the drive by wire throttle deciding what to do when hammering to floor. Drive by wire is a different beast , noticed that when i bought my 2010 raptor brand new vs my cable actuated throttle on 02 lightning.

Put it in sport mode. It changes the throttle mapping and is much more responsive.

Both great suggestions. I’m sure it felt like an eternity, and in reality it was less than .2 seconds. I know of what you speak, but I was already moving when I discovered that normal eco mode is WEAK and lazy. In my case I rolled into the throttle while moving and the truck would not downshift from 10th but dumped all 18# of boost for what seemed like forever but was probably like 2-3 seconds.

Normal/eco mode in an untuned truck will certainly feel sluggish. Here's a datalog from one of my runs w/ Goosetune. Note that this is an E50 tune pull from 4th gear.

As you can see, the HO EB is able to go from 0 boost to 20 PSI in ~1.5 seconds and you're getting peak power around 3k RPM.

OP, I agree that it can feel a little lazy and I think it's more of a symptom of the 10R80. Your 1:1 gear is 7th so if you're sitting in 10th gear at low RPM barely over tick over and then you ask the engine for max power, it's going to take a moment to shift down to 5th or 6th and get you peak power. With this truck I usually hit sport mode, let the truck drop itself to 6th or 7th, then go to manual mode, shift to 4th or 5th depending on speed and then punch it.

I had this exact experience a couple of times in my 2020 Raptor. It was kind of a spooky feeling. To be honest, I was new to how turbos worked, and wasn’t expecting the turbo lag. It was something I had to adjust to while I owned the truck.
