Very interesting.

Now, if they "retune" it to run 87, will that gas mileage reflect as worse or equal to stock gas mileage?

87 gas mileage with tune and without the tune?

You’d still be limited by octane regardless of tuning. The engine is designed for 93 octane, which is what the power output figures are based on.

They make a great product for diesel engines that cleans/lubes injectors, AND also cleans the DPF. However, on a gas engine, I think that Chevron makes the best for cleaning/lubing the injectors. It has Tecron in it that really seems to be the market favorite. With the standards of gasoline delivery and tank status at the stations, this Chevron stuff is cheap insurance to protect your injectors.

Chevron Techron is the only additive I’ve seen referenced and approved by factory service information.

In my owners manual, Ford says that 87 octane is fine....power output is 401...6.2L. 91 octane or above power output is 411...6.2L motor.

I have used the Lucas fuel conditioner in my 2014 6.2 engine for over 4 years and it works great. I don’t believe it claims to increase octane in fuel but to allow lower octane use? Anyway, I use it for the injector and valve cleaning properties and upper cylinder lubrication. It works very well with the oil/air separator to keep the intake air clean. It also gives better fuel economy on trips. You can buy it in gallon size to make it economical to use.

I haven’t used this in my Raptor since it’s a pain to add anything to the tank with the cap less fueling. I have used it in the wife’s Shelby and her Cobra before and did see an improvement in fuel mileage after running it. I do think running anything less than premium in any Raptor is foolish because you loose some of the fun factor.

Under boost its a whole different ball game vs a N/A engine, unless maybe it’s a very high CR motor. 87-93 under the stock tune your talking about a 50HP power difference. Besides many company’s don’t even add any cleaners to the 87 octane fuel.
