Perimeter Plus Alarm Issue

I installed the perimeter plus yesterday with the BajaMod bracket (2020 truck using the KN1Z-19A361-A unit). Even with the sensitivity turned all the way up, I have to give the window a respectable hammer fist to get the solo horn honk. I've read all threads on this system, and most report having to dial back the sensitivity since the slightest disturbance triggers the warning. If Ford ships it with zip ties, does that imply that some degree of play in mounting the unit is optimal? I have it secured in there nice and snug both on the bracket and the bracket to the mounting point.

its an impact sensor. i wouldnt hit the glass. its an impact sensor designed to detect movement of the chassis. while they claim it works on glass, its not ideal. the glass break sensor on aftermarket alarms is a microphone that picks up the sound frequency of breaking glass. roll your window down and hit the door frame and see how sensitive it is

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that I was hitting on the glass since it seemed like the only way to trigger the horn to confirm the system was working in the first place.

I purchased it because I read so many posts of it being able to pick up on more subtle acts such as door handle pulls. I've had an increase in people checking locks in the middle of the night and an additional deterrent would be nice

When I added mine, I had the same experience. The sensor didn't seem to work well.

But a few days later, the alarm would trigger whenever there's a loud car or loud motorcycle driving by. A door handle pull makes the horn honk once. And it's working as expected.

Basically, give it a couple of days. I don't know why mine did that but that's my experience.

Good to know that there still may be hope! Thanks.

As other members have noted, it is a impact sensor and senses vibrations. Best way to adjust is hit your tow hooks or trailer hitch with something hard to set your sensitivity.

Be careful though because if it's to sensitive, a loud car/motorcycle exhaust, large heavy trucks driving by, or a garbage truck doing a pick up can set it off.

Am thinking of getting it too. Is it on with the intrusion alarm, but off when you set the alarm to perimeter only?

You need to confirm this but I think if you have the intrusion/motion sensors (you should have the 4 sensor holes in your overhead console) you should have the perimeter plus sensor already installed by the factory.

I agree, both of your experiences are equal to mine. I used the tie wraps and very tightly mounted it next to the adjacent module. I had the sensitivity at full for the longest time is it didn’t seem that sensitive to taps on the vehicle and wanted it to recognize a door handle pull.

But loud vehicles, trains, thunderstorms etc etc would trigger warnings and eventually set it off. I turned it down just slightly eventually. Still picks up door handle pulls on a average and slightly, very slightly less sensitive to every other annoyance around the truck. Far from perfect but works pretty well. FordPass notifications are nice. Still wish there was a way to bypass arming the shock sensor every now and then.

My understanding is that I have intrusion - which picks up a stray moth that decides to fly around at 3AM, and the pitch/yaw sensor that picks up being towed (or in my case will go off when taking a vehicle ferry with imperceptible pitch/yaw). But I don't have a shock sensor as it is the additional module, as discussed.

I haven't found a way to turn off the intrusion and have it last past one cycle. I tried to turn it off through the instrument settings, but it only turns it off when the truck is off once, but it doesn't disable it. When camping I get the odd bug in the truck and don't want it to set off the alarm in the night. So it is no locking or it requires remembering to set perimeter only.

My question is that if I add the shock sensor, does it toggle on and off with intrusion or perimeter. I suspect intrusion (the 4 sensors in the roof), but I wanted to make sure. If I park somewhere with big trucks etc., didn't want it to go off - want to be able to set to perimeter only.
