GEN 2 Deleted

Finally in a position in my life after years of living month to month to be able to get pretty much everyone's dream truck.... I'm absolutely stoked about it and love everything about it except the sound of the v6.

Have been look through the forum here and am honestly astounded. Some of the mods folks have done cost a mint and make them happy and they if they can afford them and makes them happy, Good on em... that's not what confuses me though.. its the number of "I can do that way cheaper" bodge jobs on 50-80k machines that were pretty damn good in the first place. Little duct tape on my masserati will hold that 5$ antenna on just fine.. Wtf????

I'm not exactly well off but maintain the mindset that you get what you put it in. I may spend 100 bucks on something you can make for 12, but I don't have to take the time to source it build it and fit it three or four times to save 3 bucks....

If you can do something better and cheaper, great but don't put others down because we may not have the time or inclination to be imaginative and would rather enjoy the time driving the trucks like they were built to be driven.

Word to the wise guys... duct tape, baling wire and zip ties are great on the trail.. keep them in your truck tool box by all means. But when the first thought when you have a mod in mind goes to one of those options... buy a Chevy

The "sound" grows on you and loosens up over time.

I have owned every kind of car in the last 35 years. Exhaust sound is bottom on my list of things I care about. So this is a non issue for me.

Traded in my 6.2l v8 f150, having the v6 sound piped in is a bit weird for me. The v8 you could hear without assistance... don't get me wrong... the power is there and all but nothing sounds as good as a well tuned 8cyl

I don't have a Raptor yet, but I can tell you that the exhaust is one of the least things on my list about getting a truck. For me its about the function and will it hold up to the trips to the field/duck blind/lake etc and get me back home and be comfortable while doing it. For me a Raptor checks the boxes I have and I can't wait to get one. Im a car guy and I have owned some different cars and trucks over the years and I can tell you somethings some guys are willing to do on there own to save some money and they do just as good as a job on installing a modification just as a professional shop can. Its the ones that just don't care about details when they install something.

All I want to know is who is doing mods with duct tape and zip ties?? I seen where one guy held on a splash guard for a light with a zip tie, big deal, the inner fenders are held on with cheaper made plastic clips.

One of the downsides of the Toyota 4.0 V6 is that the oil filter is located at the top of the engine on the driver side. When you remove it, the oil gets all over the place and leaks down the pet **** onto the oil pan. Since I don't like to change the oil on my wife's Tacoma I make her take it to a place. They always make a mess. So I got creative and bought 4 foot of rubber gas line from Ace and zip tied one end to the Pet **** then routed the line down to the frame and away from any moving parts then zip tied it to the frame. I cut rest off that was sticking out below the front bumper. now no oil gets on the oil pan. The black zip ties work for this kind of thing as its fixing a design flaw issue on the part of Toyota, and I have not found an aftermarket kit to address the issue. The install is clean and you can't tell its there unless you know what you are looking at.

as someone who uses zip ties on his truck liberally, I have to ask...









Did someone hurt you with zip ties? what did they ever do to you?




If not zip ties, what would you recommend I use?

I have been on this forum for about 4 years, I see most of the Gen 2 threads. You've been on the forum for about 6 days and are very bothered by something I've seen once or twice in the whole time I've been on here. Am I missing something?

Oldfart, disappointed in your reply old man... not so much a mention about the utility of zip ties n naughty bits!

But yes, I only recollect a couple jackasses talking about adding "lifting blocks" or other such cheap ass ill fated nonsense.

I haven't been on this forum that long, but I feel like I see the opposite. People spending awesome amounts of cash on badass projects vs. MacGyver mods.

But yeah, no doubt OP, there are some talented people here who can fabricate anything with a toothpick and a bandaid. You just have to accept if you're not one of them (I have!) and be ready to don the flame suit from time to time. Hell, I just spent money on the damn BajaMod shock sensor alarm bracket. That might be punishable by death around here.
