Have a crack in my windshield that I am going to have to get replaced.

Wondering if anyone has had their windshield replaced and how much of a PITA was it?

Its been a long time since I have had to replace a windshield...assuming calling Safelite is the best option?

Mine is also tinted so I will have that additional hassle...

Had mine replaced after a rock shattered it. Safe lite did a great job and came to my house. I insisted on OEM glass and it was only like $70 more than the non OEM. They have the tools to calibrate the lane assist camera too if needed.

Thanks for the info - was concerned about getting OEM glass but it sounds like Safelite has a provision for that if I ask.

I had mine replaced a few months ago; went through my insurance company and insisted on OEM. I had to take it into their shop to have the new windshield "calibrated" to the truck so all the sensors would work as they were designed.

Thanks - I JUST emailed Allstate and asked what to do. One of my employees has State Farm and they replaced her windshield yesterday at my office with no cost to her.

Glad to help. I have Farmers and they were great. The only thing I didn't like was the fact I had to drive into Seattle and spend a few hours at the glass shop. But, they did the job right and no subsequent issues. It cost me some $$ per my policy, but mileage will vary on that...

As others have said just get good glass. Safelite carries some brands that are garbage. I've had better luck filing a claim (have full glass coverage, no deduct) and calling a local glass shop and seeing what brands they have. I actually didn't go OEM on my wife's X5 recently as the shop had another brand that they said was better quality. Even the OEM stuff can be pretty cheap anymore. They were able to get a really nice piece of glass with a nice UV shade to it for the same cost as OEM, and I will say the wind noise is a bit better. A mm or so in extra thickness matters. Another thing I learned is that the OEM or better gasket really matters. Some of the cheap aftermarket gaskets are lower quality rubber or in several more pieces to make them easier to install, but then you end up with wind noise and/or leaks. He showed me how the 'quick job' gasket has an adhesive on it that is garbage compared to putting down a good bead of sealant and then the full piece gasket. Learned a lot, plus it was nice to give a local guy the biz. He came to me still. I had issues with a safelite job, and it seems they're basically a cartel with the insurance companies. Sure, they'll warranty any issues, but that's a pain in the ass.

Also, pro tip--everyone call your agent right now and add full glass. It's a tiny change in premium, but good knowing ALL GLASS is no deduct if you break something. My pano roof is even covered (asked specifically).

I've been putting off replacing mine for a while.

When I do replace it, I plan to use one of these...

I went to safelite to have my F250 glass replaced. No issues whatsoever. I had only had my truck for 2 months ( new 2019) when it needed a replacement. They used OEM and I haven't had any issues.

Used one of these on my 2016 Lariat after 5 windshield replacements in 2 years. Great product and was the last windshield I used on the truck. Gorilla glass for your truck.
