This is what I'm talking about, it's pretty common to see in a lot of EcoBoost with the pump all the way in the front of the motor in the pickup in the front of the sump it's very easy to speculate that the oil is running away from the pick up on a hard launch.

Not going to speculate any about the old tune, it's hard to say. Like guy says there was nothing alarming in the logs including no alarming oil pressure events that we saw. So it kind of strange, but it comes with the territory.

Like I said there's plenty of Motors out there that are making more power then this one but at the same time there's also been similar bearing failures on engines that are making less power and even stock power. 1d10228fea1f3b1bc4e02de3fb6b854b.jpg

After having experience in many other platforms, this leads me to believe that the masses need to be better educated on all the preliminary reliability mods that should be completed for a 3.5 EB used in this manner. Before getting to all the "fun" stuff.

I too got away with making way more power on stock internals on other platforms. I got away with it without incident mainly due to addressing such things AND knowing what type of "beating" it would and would not tolerate. This forum needs a good sticky discussing such in a clear and uncluttered manner. Folks like you guys who know the 3.5 EB as well as you do. Wish I had the gumption to go down another rabbit (motor) hole, but I started in the late 80's and burned out about a decade ago. More white hair than dark... lot of it things like this keeping my gears turning at night.

Nah and I’m not looking for any negativity. I had fun with it. I learned a lot. I enjoyed it. I broke it. Me... no one else... I pushed it beyond the limit of my motor...

And that’s ok because there are new long blocks and it’ll be better than before.

This is a fantastic way to look at it good for you. Some people spend money on booze, cigarettes, gambling or expensive food. I like to buy nice things and tinker. If crap breaks, pay to play baby!

As a side note... looking at that picture, I wonder if there would be any mileage to be gained just out of an extended pick up?
Yes, or a baffled pan. It's running away from the pickup, we run the drag trucks about 1/2 qt over and don't have issues with it dropping.

For a truck of this type and all the off-road places it will go and hills it will climb. I am surprised Ford did not implement a baffled pan or a more complex pickup system. I imagine the truck lived through there extensive testing.

Me too, but I'm also not surprised that they put it in the front of the pan for that exact reason of going off-roading up and down hill.

True as going down a steep hill it would starve. About the best they could do with this particular design.

Man, so sorry about this! Now I'm a tad worried.... no problems yet. e85 is quick. Maybe I'll add a "grandma" tune that brings it down to 300hp!

We have seen the pumps starve of oil on hard launches. Here is a custom oil pan we made for one 7100 truck and Dailey dry sump oil pan we use in the same applications all the time. Both work really well, but dry sump is certainly not for street daily driving. This pan is also pretty pricey, and we have an aluminum one which moves the sump a bit to prevent starving the engine for oil when beating on it. All 3 work very well.
