Ever since I installed the JDM tune, I’ve noticed a hazy smoke from the exhaust under heavy acceleration when I hit higher rpm’s. I don’t drive like that often, but just everyday driving leaves a film on the corner of my bumper. It reminds me of when I had my Powerstroke. Does anyone else running JDM’s tunes experience this? Is it just a supercharged tuning characteristic?

It is not oil being burned. The truck has never used oil. Before I supercharged, I ran a few different tunes, all from different vendors, and never had a soot issue. They all seemed to burn clean. I sent an email to JDM this morning asking about it.

When I had 11-12 ecoBoost f-150's the exhaust tips would get quite a bit of soot on them. I always attributed it to direct injection. Let us know what JDM thinks.

They emailed back pretty quick and said that of course, the fuel increases as boost goes up. He told me to data log the Lambse readings so he can make sure everything looks right.

My guess is that nothing is majorly going on, but i think it makes my truck look like junk that’s about ready to grenade the engine when it smokes like that. Would be nice if they can clean up the fuel just a little.

I'm curious about this too, just ordered a JDM 700HP kit for my Roush truck. Right now the truck has a tune from a different company and I'm curious to see what happens with the JDM tune. I blew by a buddy of mine a couple weeks ago and he said there was definitely some extra smoke out the tailpipe. I think he was exaggerating but he said it looked like a diesel truck going by! There is definitely a little soot on the tailpipes but nothing on the bumper and I haven't noticed anything in the rearview mirror. My last truck was a 2005 Cummins that if I wasn't careful would black out intersections so I know what that looks like lol.

I’ve never noticed any other supercharged vehicle smoke like that. I plan to data log mine tomorrow and get it sent off to them.

My Whipple mustang does it, its a little fat on tune but that's intentional. My turbo big block did it, also fat in tune. My ecoboost did it after it was tuned. I am sure my coyote will when the turbos go on. OEM blown cars often don't, but they are tuned for emissions rather than power.

If JDM is happy with the tune, your not making or losing oil, and it still makes good power; put some black exhaust tips on it and go back to enjoying your raptor.

Hopefully everything is all in spec. I’m very happy that truck isn’t using oil. Already has black tips, but the soot residue looks worse on the bumper corner. I had one guy a while back ask if it was a diesel, while it was idling. Guess it’s much better being rich rather than lean. At least a data log will let them see if there’s anything that can be altered to increase power.

More power is always good. Understood about the sootiness, doesn't go well with white. If you can adjust your tips out a little it may help with that.
