He’s not an idiot, he’s simply converting a hard good that he has no emotional attachment to into cash. He’d actually be more of an idiot if he had the ability to do this and *wasn’t* destroying vehicles.

People get bent out of shape about him because they’re attributing their own emotions to his purchase. Good on him for feeding his family...who cares if some trucks get torn up in the process?

You don't make hundreds of thousands from hundreds of thousands views. If you have several million views you might make 100,000. He's buying on credit and floating everything thinking it will never end and only get better. The truth is that his little bit of fame will dissipate and he'll end up with nothing.

The TRX was $93k so he doesn’t have to make hundreds of thousands from this single vehicle. He’s writing it off on his taxes as a business expense and he’ll be able to sell it for $45k even after all the damage.

If you have several million views you might make 100,000.

Um, you may want to revisit how many views Mike has for the TRX videos.

He's buying on credit and floating everything thinking it will never end and only get better. The truth is that his little bit of fame will dissipate and he'll end up with nothing.

I think you’re completely in the dark about the cashflow of a YouTuber that generates millions of views per month.

I think you’re completely in the dark about the cashflow of a YouTuber that generates millions of views per month.

There are several hundred Youtubers (probably more) that have highly successful careers making these videos. But it's not just income from the videos themselves, they'll have patreon subscribers for exclusive content, sponsorships, merchandise sales, etc to rake in cash. They essentially find their niche market and build up their brand, not much different than large production companies do, but on a much smaller scale.

I think both of these statements can simultaneously be true.

1. Destroying a new Ram TRX is an amoral act. It's completely neutral. It's not right. It's not wrong. It's a collection of metal and plastic.

2. I don't like that our system of online entertainment and advertising has made it lucrative to destroy something that would be a lifetime pinnacle purchase for most people.

OK, I'm with you so far.

If you understand the first point, why does the second point matter? I work for a company that goes through a lot of vehicles (mostly sales) in an effort to net a profit. Let's say we have a bad year and only break even--we 'destroyed' fifty cars and have nothing to show for it. Why is that somehow more noble than what Mike Hyssong is doing with his TRX?

I didn't say it's more or less noble. I didn't say anything about what either of you is doing.

Agreed. You said that you don't like it. That's fair. I don't like cooked peas. That doesn't mean that something is wrong with peas. I don't like to see wanton destruction of property either, I was raised that way. I understand why it's OK. I understand that it's actually good for our economy. But I don't like it.

The people in this thread that are bashing this YouTuber need to pick up a hobby in life, maybe try underwater basket weaving. You guys are complaining about a YouTuber, for jumping his TRX lol. This guy has more balls than 99% of the people on this forum, not to mention most people in here don't even take their raptors off the pavement lol. Was your wallet affected by him jumping his TRX and posting it to YouTube? Did he offend you and you need counseling and a safe space to process things? It is his TRX, he can do with it as he pleases. The guy clearly does well for himself financially. His list of cars he owns is impressive. Just sounds like to me a bunch of people in here complaining about a guy that makes more money than them, has the balls to actually do stuff with his vehicles, and they are jealous about it.

If your "lifetime pinnacle purchase" is a freaking dodge then you are pathetic. Actually having a lifetime pinnacle purchase is just strange anyway. Maybe Im weird but I dont live my entire life trying to buy one tangible thing.
