Hey all,

New Raptor owner here, bought a 2010 tuxedo black raptor about two weeks ago and absolutely love it! The truck has 218,00km on it but has been meticulously maintained by the previous owner and seemed to be in good shape. Recently though I have noticed some problems I was hoping the forum might be able to help with:

1) Check 4x4 light comes on in the dash when the 4x4 switch is pulled to activate the diff lock. Switching between 4 high and 4 low works just fine with no errors.
2) I had the check engine light come on yesterday, it was -45°c yesterday and -40 today so I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the light coming on in extreme cold. There have been no weird noises/misfire sounds.

I was recently posted to an isolated community in northern Saskatchewan and dont have easy access to a code reader and Amazon among most places wont ship up here, so getting the codes read is going to be a no go at least for a while. I realise it will be hard to diagnose the issues without proper equipment but just wanted to see if anyone has gone through similar issues. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the place, congrats on your raptor. Post a pic of that beast. Check engine light could be a number of things. Does it stay on? Could be a misfire from debris in the fuel line, could try some fuel injector cleaner, etc.

Here's some pics of the beast! 6.2 with sunroof and navigation, yes the check engine stays on, I always plug in the truck overnight, it first came on after work yesterday where it sat without being plugged in. After work yesterday it also remote started then quickly died but worked fine when key started.

Yeah, the remote start won't work if there is a code present. You can disconnect the battery to temporary remove the check engine light if its a minor code, but anything serious will pop back up. Nice looking truck! Check your engine oil too, what weight are you using?

Don't spose the old owner cut the original head of the block heater cord off and replaced it by chance? I ask simply becuase there's a thermister in some of these new units block heater cord plugs. Mine has , won't turn on the heater till -18. Working in the shop at the GM store. All our truck also have them. Except some diesels. Occasionally we'll get a farmer that will lop the end off and replace if be it from driving away with it plugged in or thinking the heater cords no good. This causes the internal temp of the coolant to get too warm. Then the engine coolant temp sensor reports the coolant is at a certain temp. And the air intake temp it's - whatever out. The ecm thinks the trucks over heating and throws a tantrum and turns on the cel light. And usually stored a temp code correlation code. Just a thought. Could be different with the Ford. But we see it regularly with the gms.

I'll look into that after work, didn't notice anything weird about the cord but worth checking into. Like nosbusa was saying earlier could be an issue with various fluids at that temp. May have to wait for things to warm up a bit.

I'll definitely check the oil after work, not sure what weight the last owner used may have to dig through a pile of receipts that came with the truck.
