I'm going to Lake Arrowhead next weekend. Forecast shows its snowing that Friday.
Are you snow chains required?

I just don't want to get turned around for no chains.

4x4 vehicles are never required to have chains. they will close the road before that happens. also, i dont think these trucks were designed to have snow chains/cables

I can’t recall for sure but I think I remember my dealer making me sign some acknowledgement/disclosure form that these trucks are not designed to be used with chains and could cause damage to the drivetrain blah blah. It was either a form or something they were very specific about letting me know in the closing process. I’m sure it’s in the owners manual in bold print somewhere.

We have a house in Arrrowhead and are here now. Raptors are NOT required to use changes until R2 conditions and frankly, you dont want to be on 18 or the 330 in R2 conditions. You are only required to carry them if you have M+S tires and they are legal depth and in good condition.

Sometimes they check, sometimes they ask, sometimes they wave you by. It's depends.

Autozone has a set for about $130 with tensioners. I keep them in the raptor under the rear seat when it snows.

FWIW, I've been coming to Arrowhead for nearly 35 years as a driver. I've only chained up ONCE with a 4X4 and that was in R3 and it was for safety on the 3/4 inch black ice on the road.

From what I’ve seen, the manual says no chains.

That being said, it seems to me there was somebody who fit chains on the back. Up front the suspension and control arms pretty much make it impossible to safely fit chains.

I had to put chains on my Raptor once in Norcal because I was towing my double axle trailer. I believe the law is you need the rear tires chained (if a 4x4 or rear drive) and a chain on each wheel of an axle on a trailer being towed ( ex: one chain on the left front trailer axle and one chain on the right rear trailer axle). There is plenty of room to put chains on if you are running the stock wheel and tire combo.

As @jabroni619 said, in bad mountain storms in Ca 4x4 have to carry chains and if the storm is bad enough and they will turn you around if you do not have. Any set of chains will get you past the check point, they don't even have to fit.
As far as the proper chains for a raptor, with stock offset wheels, you can't install them on the front because there is not enough clearance between the tire and UCA. Rear no problem
