^ This will solve the problem. I've towed heavier than that with my Gen 2 in heavy wind and there was no sway at all. The relatively short trailer you had didn't help either.

Thanks. If I buy a trailer I'll use a weight distribution hitch. This issue was with a rental trailer.

You still didn't answer whether the trailer was nose up or not.

If you don't have your ball height set properly and the trailer is nose up it can cause the trailer to sway.

The trailer and truck where both level. The rental yard (commercial) adjusted the trailer tongue to get it level. The trailer had plates for adjustment. Trailer had a 2.5" ball. This was when empty so very level when empty. I assume there was sufficient tongue weight as designed and built by the manufacturer. When we loaded we were careful to position the load so the trailer and truck were level.

So the load / piece of machinery was 9 feet tall and weighed about 2000 lbs, correct ? Got a pic of WHERE it was positioned on the trailer (for all of the "land based" loadmaster experts out there LOL) ?

Perhaps the load (depending on its surface area; got a pic ?) was "creating" a large amount of drag and acting as a "sail," if you will, once at freeway speeds. This, along with some of the other previously mentioned factors could have contributed to the "swaying" effect.

I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express lastnight...

Just to clarify, the trailer towed fine with the load. I drove 360 miles from Phoenix to LA with the trailer empty and it swayed badly when empty. Once loaded it pulled fine.
