You have a very good insurance company, who was it with if you do not mind me asking. Most insurance companies would be looking for a way to spend 40k rebuilding your truck.


Well....this was an extremely cut & dry accident, 4 way intersection w/ 2 lanes each way, the person who hit me had already gone past one whole section of road going southbound (she was traveling east) through the red light, I didn't see her coming as I was the farthest vehicle in on the northbound section, light was green for me, count 1, 2, 3 & guy behind me even "chirped" me to start moving which I did & 1/2 way through the intersection SMASH @ about 40mph front driver side impact & alot of front end as she swerved left last second thankfully avoiding more of a broad side impact to my driver's door

I have safeco - division of liberty mutual - person who hit me had USAA, I think my ins was all-in on getting me paid quickly & correctly & nobody wanted me going to the hospital, easily could've milked this one for $$$$$$ payout

That is a lot harder than you think by the way. Awesome they paid you out fast. Most insurance companies wouldn't do that as you would have been waiting months to see if they could some how save 10 grand. LOL

And Subaru because of a lawsuit gave me an 8 year/ 100k mile warranty on the motor for a class action lawsuit. Foreign car makers stand behind their products a lot more.
Yes the I think you are correct on that. My other neighbor had a Subaru that I believe the head gaskets or the heads themself went bad and they replaced all of the parts and extended his original powertrain warranty

Yes the I think you are correct on that. My other neighbor had a Subaru that I believe the head gaskets or the heads themself went bad and they replaced all of the parts and extended his original powertrain warranty

I am not aware of any Subaru head gasket extended warranty, all of the ones I’ve seen have been customer pay. Subaru will sometimes offer good will assistance through the dealer, but there’s nothing in writing.

Subaru did recently lose a class action lawsuit for oil consumption due to faulty piston rings, which forced them to repair the vehicles and extend the engine warranty to 8yr/100k miles.

“Subaru knew that certain models of vehicles had defective piston rings that would cause extra oil to burn off the engine. According to the class action lawsuit, Subaru did not tell consumers about the oil burning defect, and that deception caused car owners to spend “considerable money on extra engine oil, but also on engine repairs trying to fix the underlying problem.”

In addition, the class action lawsuit claims that Subaru “improperly denied many warranty repairs, and then, more recently, secretly changed the scope of its warranty coverage without telling affected drivers.”

This is another recent class action that Subaru lost for widespread rod and main bearing failure on EJ series engines, which is nothing new for that engine; it’s been a known issue for years.

Yes, the EJ has been notorious for head gasket issues for since it's inception. They fail in various ways; some leak oil externally from the bottom of the heads, some leak coolant externally, some leak coolant into the combustion chambers, and some leak oil into the coolant internally. If Subaru corporate contributed to part or all of the repair, your neighbor must have been a loyal buyer, because there is no extended warranty campaign that I am aware of or am able to find.

I have owned two EJ STis and never have had any catastrophic piston ring or head gasket failures, and I slam 6 to 7k rpms all the time. Of course for those that over rev the engine or have tunes the results are different. The stock rev limiters fuel cuts makes it hard to blow these engines up.

Of course others peoples experiences could be different

No. I've said in the past that the WRX/STI is very unique and they are fun cars to drive. They aren't too bad in terms of ease of service in most aspects either. But that doesn't change the fact that they have major issues, especially in terms of engine failure. That includes head gasket, piston ring land, and rod bearing failure. EJ25's are notorious for cracking the #4 ringlands even when bone stock; to deny that would just be foolish.

Claiming your single anecdotal experience outweighs the widespread known issues and class action lawsuits that Subaru has lost is very naïve.

Looking at a 2018 Scab, 802, carbon with 28K miles tomorrow ar Car Max. They want 53K. Based on this thread it seems like a great deal right?
