I have a 2017 Ford Raptor and the key fob blinks red three times when trying to remote start. When using the ford app to remote start, I get a message “failed to start”. Any ideas what would cause this? All windows are rolled up and pin switch under hood seams to be in working order. I can lock/unlock with both the fob and the Ford app. It worked last week. Unsure what to look for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most likely DTCs are stored in one or more modules. Do you have ForScan? Any aftermarket mods?

No stored codes and no check engine light. I purchased new fob batteries back in July when I bought this truck and the truck battery is still good. It was working fine last week.

Both key fobs do the same thing when trying to remote start. They just blink red three times. This is an OEM remote start, not aftermarket.

I do have Forscan. No mods. No stored codes. No check engine lights.

Did you perform Self Tests on the PCM and BCM? Not all DTCs will populate as CMDTCs. If so, I would recommend checking your gear indicator display in the IPC to verify that it shows "P" when the selector lever is in Park. If so, access Datalogger using ForScan and check the hood ajar PID to verify that it indicates that the hood is closed.

PID confirmed hood is closed. It shows that hood is open when you open it. I believe the hood switch is okay. PCM and BCM show no faults during self test.

Solved. I disconnected the truck battery for around 20mins. Reconnect the battery and cycled the ignition. Got out of the truck and tried the remote start with the key fob. Lights flashed and it started right up. Still don’t know why it stopped working. It’s all good now.

I betcha there was a stored code in there that was preventing it from starting. It will probably happen again, disconnecting the battery will work, but I would suggest not doing that and find the stored code, maybe visit a dealer next time.
