Front mount intercooler FMIC. CVF is a brand name, see their post above.

I have CVF intercooler, I am more than happy with it, great quality/customer service and price and stock location.

Honestly, all these questions have been answered if you search the forum... type the forum name in google followed by the info you are looking for and do some reading. Then, read more.

Goosetune stage 2 E50/93 is where it’s at IMO

So technically speaking FMIC typically referred to as intercooler in front of the radiator, but also Factory location is still front mount so you could call it stock location FMIC. I would stay with Factory location, and as I just see Cobb acknowledging in another post, you will not likely see any difference in charge air temps between the two... that is the ticket for power preservation. So I continue to stand by recommendation that if you are not going with a bumper that will require, I would keep stock location. Also, if you are DIY it will probably be a lot easier to install FMIC depending on your brand preference. I would stay with CVF or Cobb.

I am not an engineer or have super deep knowledge when it comes to increasing power, but think I have some of the basics. An intercooler does not boost power, but allows you to maintain maximum power output by keeping charge air temps as low as possible... Unless you are moving more air into the engine, you will not achieve further power gains no matter how big and bad your intercooler is.

OK so you are partly correct I guess. If a tuned truck with some bolt ons makes 425WHP with a stock intercooler and then makes 450WHP with an FMIC (not stock location) what would you say? I have seen plenty of evidence on turbo applications where in the very first dyno pull heatsoak becomes an issue. There is so much going on with differences of efficiency etc etc that it is hard to just say a good IC just keeps you from losing power to heat soak. While that is true, it is not the whole story. With every degree hotter there is a penalty you pay, the flip side is that every degree cooler there is a benefit. I proper IC can keep IATs 5-10C of ambient or so at full throttle. A stock intercooler would be lucky to be within 40C. 30C cooler IATs is going to make a whole lot more power than the same motor running 30C hotter.

i agree with your statement. I am assuming you have achieved the same maximum “cooling” of the air with the upgraded intercooler. My CVF is within 4 degrees ambient temp at temps greater than 100 degrees outside and never had any trouble heat soaking yet... not that I drive wide open all the time. I just can’t see anything doing any better for my output/build.
