To drain, to flush, to fluid exchange, so many options! You do you. Everyone has different experiences that sway their thought process. I for example did the pan drop fluid change at the 57k mark, but had to have it towed to the dealer for a valve body cleaning in order for it to go. Because of that I have been taking it in for the 16qt fluid exchange around the 60k mark ever since with no issues to date. Do what makes you happy.

DO NOT FLUSH the trans. My dealership recommended it and they ended up replacing it. Just pick up the truck yesterday after 4 weeks of no truck. My truck did not make it 500 miles after the flush.

How many miles did it have when they did the flush and was it the first one?

I did the fluid exchange at 25,000 miles after 5 five years back in 2015 at the dealer and will do it again when I hit 50,000
But I have a good dealer with a service manager that knows me, only a few of his best techs get to touch my truck.
You can easily screw up the trans if not done properly.

I've done hydraulic flushes and used hydraulic "fluid exchange" systems the size of a car to flush the hydraulic systems on aircraft worth more than the real estate of a middle class neighborhood while making a bit over $40 an hour. That's all cleaned and tested like a hospital surgery center.

With cars/trucks...

It's all about how clean the machine is and how competent the tech is.

Doing the trans bulkhead o-rings, valve body to trans-o-rings, fluid, filter flush to include the new cooler and T-case change at home is all going to be WAY less than a dealer fluid exchange.

If I had a newer raptor out of warranty at 50k miles I'd just go to Galpin ford not dumb f*ck Egypt ford and get a fluid exchange.

Don't follow Ford's recommendations. Do it more often if you are a wheeler, not a poser.

I'd do the seals and a OEM thermal valve not the thermal bypass if it gets cold where you are on this one.


The bulkhead connector. They have a new sleeve part number with new o-rings now since this.

I don't drive many miles right now. If I did I know I'd have a used chevy volt just to go from A to B distance on the pavement.

Back before the sell off I had a Maserati, a 6.7 Ford Powerstroke crew cab, a Ducati superbike and a DR650 suzuki dual sport.

The single-cylinder Suzuki got the most miles because it got Prius besting MPG, I had two sets of wheels, tires, oil changes, and even an entire engine rebuild was cheap and something I could do entirety on a Saturday morning.

Since I live in NYC and I drive daily, I probably have the same amount of hours as someone with 80,000 all highway or not in a Metro area because of sitting in traffic and light to light driving.
You tell me, I'm on my forth set of brakes and third set of shocks and soon will be on my third set of tires.
