Rear brake wear

Just had a service at 21000 km and learned that my rear pads are at 2mm but fronts are at 8mm. I am curious if anyone has experienced this type of wear on the rear of their trucks. I use mine for a quite of lot of offroad in Baja mode and am wondering if the brakes are wearing because of traction control? Anything I can do to reduce the wear? Or is this just a consequence of driving hard?

Also, any recommendations for rotors and pads to replace OEM?

Just kidding and good to see more Canadians Raptors.

I’m not sure about the braking system but could it be rear biased? Could be from running her hard.

I’d go with oem rotors and an aftermarket pad - something with a bit more bite. The oem pads have never really given me a problem tho.

Is it possible that your caliper slides are stuck up? My old 2000s Fords were famous for that.

As for the brakes, put the factory OEMs back on, not the cheaper Motorcraft alternatives. Do not waste your money on drilled or slotted rotors. You’ll be hard pressed to find a brake pad with a higher co-efficient of friction than the stock pad.

If you look on RockAuto, the Motorcraft OE Raptor pads and Police Interceptor pads are roughly $100, while the MC alternatives are $50-60. There’s a reason for that.

my front pads wear faster than my rear. i think its normal. the majority of braking comes from the front. its why the front pads are larger than the rear. having a smaller pad in the rear means less surface area contact. if your pads are wearing different between left and right, you might have an issue with a caliper, but front to back wear will be different. they will never wear evenly. i abuse my brakes more than anyone here. i guarantee it. dont worry about it unless you are having braking issues. i have replace my calipers 5 times, rotors 6 times and pads have been replaced about 12 times. i bought the autozone pads since they have a lifetime replacement policy. i take them off take them to autozone and they give me new ones free. the calipers are oem still. i have the r1 concept rotors. @Rick@FreedomMotorsports can get you set up with brakes if you are looking to change them out

Check the pads yourself. I went in for an oil change and the dealer told me the pads had 2mm left and I needed to change them. I went back 5k miles later and they were at 5mm. I don't know how they grew over time, but they must have because no one touched them. I mean, the dealer would never lie to sell me services I don't need.

My front's usually need to be changed before the rears. I like to go two sets of pads per set of rotors then change it all. I went with PowerStop Z23 from RockAuto and really liked them. Install was easy.

It is not at all unusual for the rear brakes to wear more quickly than the front brakes on late model vehicles. To balance out the braking and counter front end dive, the ABS module proportions a significant amount of brake pressure to the rear. The strategy is much more aggressive than old school mechanical metering and proportioning valves, which in many cases would have the rear drum brakes last multiple times longer than the front, as the rear was doing very little actual braking.

I have done no research on the ABS system in my raptor. On older cars and trucks its common to have a "delay" valve as part of the proportion valve. It limits the front brake line pressure from building until ~100 PSI. This causes to rear to start to settle before the front start to dive. I am sure this same strategy is used via the ABS.
