There has never, EVER been a moment in my life where I thought -"I wish this had less power".

Let me tell you something brother. That is very very true. Say Ford continues business as they do and this “Halo” vehicle gets a one motor option, and it’s a V8! Damn that’s nice right. They will have upgraded suspension and a nice interior etc etc. Hell maybe even 37” tire capable. Damn that’s awesome.

Then they tell you it gets (fictitious number) 5 mpg less than the previous Gen 2. Hardcore off roaders are now in the same mess as the TRX gang. Hope there’s a fuel stop in the desert or mountains. Now mind you if it’s still better MPG than the TRX, they will be able to market and sell that. But Ford for many years has sold better mileage just as well as performance. So it makes me wonder. Two versions now of the Raptor or just beat the TRX’s mileage and call it a day. It’s going to be interesting in how they have done it.

Never once have I thought my Raptor doesn't have enough range. It's gone 300+ miles between fill up every time, even when towing heavy loads. 300+ miles is enough for me to want to stop.

Manboobs over at TFL drove his new TRX from the factory to Colorado and averaged 10.8 mpg. The Gen 3 will be similar. That sort of mileage is acceptable for now, but what if gas prices go back to over $4/Gal ?

Exactly why a hybrid V-6 is the engine of choice for me. Whether we like it or not gas prices are going to go up a lot with the incoming administration. Not to mention it's the way the auto industry is going. Gotta get with the times of the EV future or move out of the way and get lost in the dust. Ford has proven with the Mustang EV that they are "with" the times.

Same here....and from 2017-2020 no other half ton truck on the market made more HP or torque than the Gen2 Raptor as it came from the factory.

This is where I was going with this. If it wasn't for the TRX and the red blooded Americans that love V8 horsepower, then Ford would have be coming out with a hybrid Raptor. Say whatever you want about FCA but they're sticking with what people actually want, contrary to what the gov't wants them to offer like Ford has. So in my mind it's not getting with the times, rather being forced but eh gov't to offer something you otherwise wouldn't.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they can eek out with the 5.2L in terms of HP to fuel economy balance. I'm 100% in for the V8 I just hope they don't stop to care at all about fuel economy. I still think something in the mid 600's for horsepower and torque would be perfect; leaving a V6 option to fill the ~500hp and 600 lb-ft torque as maybe a mild hybrid setup.

Both are more than enough power, but the sound of the V8 is going to be incredible; and hopefully still gets a decently better MPG rating than the TRX to make it a seriously viable truck.

Only time driving was in the Wyoming Trail Days, but then I have a SCAB.
