I totally agree with you, I was super lucky it didn't booger up my gate the first time I put the truck in my garage when it was brand new. I asked the dealer if they could disable it, and they said they couldn't. It's not like I'm going to pull up to a loading dock, drop the gate and have someone put stuff in there and I'll just drive away without looking at it or getting out.

You could always disable the button in the remote - guessing that would be easier than trying to figure out how to disable the feature in the truck. Take the remote apart, cut the circuit that goes to the tailgate button.

I’m lucky enough to have a “Texas-sized” garage also so thankfully not an issue. I always back in so I can hit my marks and be far enough over for plenty door opening space for both the wife and I, plus not to risk hitting anything if I’m taking one of the two wheeled contraptions out for a blast.

I’ve only used the remote release for the tailgate a few times prior to installing the tonneau cover. Now it’s too tight a seal and won’t release remotely without a small extra tug by hand to get it moving anyway (no jokes - ha ha).

I’ve a squat rack etc behind the truck but it’s still far enough back that there’s plenty space to lower it and deploy the step etc if required, which is handy as I’m a short arse from Scotland so I need the space ha ha

I bought a GT500 a month ago, and now my once impeccable Raptor lives in the driveway. It seems like nothing $600k+ and a 20% downpayment won't fix, though. :(

Here in Florida, these cookie cutter master developments make garages for families with two Priuses, nothing more! Cheap bastards.

I did it once right after I brought the truck home. :banghead: Did it again tonight. No scratches!! I thought I would post up what I did after the first time to prevent damage to the tail gate. I was lucky the first time as the truck was very close to the garage door, so that the gate barely opened before it bumped the garage door, and missed the door hinges and didn't get marked. It's just 5/8" pipe insulation for 3/4" pipe. I'm sure any size would work as long as it's thick. I just used tie wraps for the hinge pieces and a sheet metal screw with a fender washer for the long vertical piece. It works really well.

Simple, cheap way to prevent a real bummer of an accident. Once I get going on ******** I plan on disabling the remote gate release. Another advantage of the long piece is if I get cold working in the garage I can slip my unit in there to warm it up for a bit. :pimp:

That would be way worse. Backed in it would bang into a Snap-On roller box if it ever opened. At least I can pad the door. Plus, that would suck to do very often, even with the mirrors folded I only have a few inches clearance as it passes through the garage door frame.

I use a thing called (PARK DADDY PDY-50-AA SINGLE-VEHICLE GARAGE PARKING AID SYSTEM). $68.00 eBay. works perfect every time !! I stop 10" from my cabinets and have 10" clearance from my garage door. I pull-in sometimes but back in most of the time.IMG_0502.jpg

What do you do if your tailgate opens up? It looks like it would smash into your work bench.
