I did it once right after I brought the truck home. :banghead: Did it again tonight. No scratches!! I thought I would post up what I did after the first time to prevent damage to the tail gate. I was lucky the first time as the truck was very close to the garage door, so that the gate barely opened before it bumped the garage door, and missed the door hinges and didn't get marked. It's just 5/8" pipe insulation for 3/4" pipe. I'm sure any size would work as long as it's thick. I just used tie wraps for the hinge pieces and a sheet metal screw with a fender washer for the long vertical piece. It works really well.

Simple, cheap way to prevent a real bummer of an accident. Once I get going on ******** I plan on disabling the remote gate release. Another advantage of the long piece is if I get cold working in the garage I can slip my unit in there to warm it up for a bit. :pimp:

That’s a nice ******* warmer.

You got quite a bit of room there-I have about 5-6” rear bumper to door. On the front, I mounted a piece of 1/2” felt.

I’m so paranoid, I watch the door close just in case. I always open the wife’s side first also.

I have my big roller tool box and 2 garbage cans in front, and enough room to walk between the tool box and my truck to go in the house. I left enough room in back so I wouldn't be paranoid about the door hitting. I also have 2 parking mats on the floor for the front tires, so I'm in the exact same spot every time I park.

That remote opener is a solution in search of a problem. What on earth do people use them for?

I totally agree with you, I was super lucky it didn't booger up my gate the first time I put the truck in my garage when it was brand new. I asked the dealer if they could disable it, and they said they couldn't. It's not like I'm going to pull up to a loading dock, drop the gate and have someone put stuff in there and I'll just drive away without looking at it or getting out.

I accidentally hit mine when I was trying to be slick remote starting the truck as I walked up to it in a parking garage. Gave me a terrible sinking feeling watching the tailgate slowly lower to it's doom against a concrete wall (I was backed in). Luckily it just happened to rest on the plastic trim on top of the tailgate and there was no damage. It's so easy to fat finger that thing I'm surprised they made it like that.

Easy if you don't care about keeping your stuff nice. I don't like any bike/car/truck I care about being left outside. My Silverado I keep outside. It's out of the way on the far side of my parking area because I don't really care about it, I just have it for a beater.
