I’m looking at three different 2019 Raptors, 802a package equipped used trucks. This would be my first Raptor but not my first F-150. I’m seeing numerous posts about problems and buybacks on this forum. Is quality a big issue with these or is it just a matter of forum fear? Is there anything I should be looking for when looking at a 2019 with less than 30k miles?

It’s absolute forum fear. You’ll rarely hear people get on forums to say how great their trucks are working, but they’ll always be on here to bitch when something breaks.

Look through the truck real good. Listen for any sort of a rattle at start up indicating a cam phaser issue. That shouldn’t be an issue however as allegedly the part issue was fixed. Check normal operation of everything, look under the truck real good to see if there’s any damage from off-roading.

Overall, give it a very thorough evaluation and go from there.

I'd have to agree with everyone so far....I've owned a 2013 Platinum, 2019 Raptor (both 3.5 Ecoboosts) and driven various F150's through work that really get the shit kicked out of them and no problems. Definitely inspect it but since it is still under warranty, I think you are good. Good luck.

If you get on a forum of any car/truck ever made, you’ll find threads about some known issue that appears to be magnified via certain posts. When in reality, it’s not at all what it appears to be.

I’m a Ram guy that has converted to the Ford Side. I’ve only put around 8,200 miles on my truck, but the only “complaint” I really have is that I miss the sound of the V8. That said, this truck really shines in so many areas that I’ve gotten past that. Like others have said, give the truck a good inspection, and if you like it, buy it.

How many buyback posts? Replies don’t count.

If you’re concerned about the cam phaser parking issue - causes the start up rattle, then bring an infra red heat gun with you and insist on a cold start and tell the sales bot not to move the truck. If the engine block is over ambient temperature, you leave. ( I mean significantly over, it’s not going to be exactly at ambient even when fully cold ).

The trucks are really pretty darn tough. if it has a moon roof, open and close the moon roof at least 3 times. if you hear any popping sounds, grinding or the roof doesn’t seem to want to open or close, make sure that you get it repaired BEFORE signing anything. The mechanism and tracks are fragile and the seals require maintenance that’s not really well spelled out.

Good luck!

I’ve had my “18” now for 2.5 years, 22,000 miles and problem free. Only issue I’ve had was a peddle commander after 1.5 years kept putting it in limp mode. Got rid of it never another problem. I stay away from the dealers and have only modded it with lighting. I think lots of issues with the Raptor is caused by people trying to do things with it that it’s not designed to do. Stay within the design limits and I think it’s fabulous. Going outside those limits and trying to “prove” it can do “anything” will most times result in failure. These trucks do lots of things very well, but they have their limits and when we go outside their limits they get very “expensive” real quick. You’ll “love” the truck, how you use it will determine how you “like” the way it performs. Welcome to the “Raptor” world my friend and the “forum”. Your going to enjoy the ride.

There are very few buyback posts compared to other car forums. (Go look at the GT350 forums and the issues with the VooDoo engines) As others have stated, there will always be problems with any car or truck, so do not let the forum negatives scare you off or you will never buy a vehicle again!
