all raptors are trophy trucks o_O

If that’s the case, then why did you feel the need to spend $200k plus on yours? :p

My Deaver +3 HD started to rust pretty quickly living in DFW, so I put AMSOIL HDMP on them. So I believe you need something on them simply to prevent rust. I am with you though, I never heard my leafs make noises—kinda hard to when your KING bypasses are clicking in the rear lol. Kinda miss hearing my front LCA bushings squeak every time I go over a bump at slow speeds too—race truck parts :D

I had 30k miles on the Deavers and thought they held up quite good. Only coated them 3 times in 2 years with the AMSOIL stuff, but I am open to trying Boeshield or something else.

I have noticed that the parts of my underbody and underbed that I sprayed HDMP on have collected quite a bit of dust. Mostly the red clay I have played around in.

@SVTFordRaptor has this been your experience as well?

@zombiekiller I would imagine you would have a checklist of sorts for your pre-trip prep? I usually spend most of the weekend before a trip checking torque and looking things over but I’m sure I don’t check nearly as much as you.

heh, I have 4 main checklists that I run through. mechanical. electrical. logistical. spares/tools.

I also make a note of anything that may be "on its last run" so that I can keep an eye on it. If it keeps gnawing at me, but I run out of time, I usually end up putting whatever the part is into my spares kit, just in case.

I use viz-torque so I can do an easy visual check of all of the hardware. I'd highly recommend it. It'll save you from having to check torque manually or mechanically. a quick visual inspection will tell you if it needs tightening.

another big timesaver is adding a little cherry air freshener scent to your trans, tcase, and differentials. All you have to do after that is pop the caps or pop the dipstick. If you don't smell any more cherry, you need to change the fluid asap because you boiled it. this is an old racer trick. If you daily your truck, it may not be the best idea. I have no idea if cherry scent voids warranties.

sometimes it makes me want big league chew though.

I use to live down a long dirt/gravel driveway and my hitch/frame areas that I sprayed would collect a lot of dust. So I could see red clay being even worse. The bottle states that it resists dirt, but it doesn’t seem to resist dust lol. The stuff stays pretty sticky, which is why I imagine dust particles adhere to it so easily.

When you touched up your leaf pack with HDMP, how did you prep? Do you clean the leaf pack with anything specific and just cover anything close against overspray?

You could take brake part cleaner and blast off whatever your going to spray if its the first time. I spray everything: frame, axle, diff cover, shocks, and so on, so I am not concerned about overspray. After I coat it for the first time, I don’t worry about cleaning it when I respray because I want to keep the previous layers in tact. I normally just put down several plastic tarps because the stuff will drip and I wouldn’t want it all over my driveway/garage.

It’s really up to you how much time you want to spend on prep. The AMSOIL stuff does a good job covering up any rust once sprayed, so you don’t have to worry about painting everything black before you spray. At this point, I just want protection for when I travel north to chase snow. The humidity in the south exasperates any rust that you get on your vehicle.

For reference, I did no prep on the leaf springs noted above.
