I'm having a hard time getting some straight advice on how to help a 2020 Ford Raptor tow / without sagging. I know it is not a tow vehicle per se, but what I am towing is pretty light. Keep in mind it is an *ALUMINUM* frame trailer which has implications (WDH is not usually recommended?).

Trailer:
525lb Tongue Weight
5,200lb Tow Weight

Trailer: https://www.intechrv.com/models/flyer/discover/

The 2020 Raptor is rated for 500/5,000 without WDH. So, I am just barely above the rating of the truck. In theory, the trailer TW goes down when trailer is loaded with weight on trailer axle. Just want to get rid of the slight sag, and the possibility of wearing out the stock suspension over time.

WDH? Bumper? Installing Class IV hitch. Timbren? Combination. Ugh. Help?

Thank you!

A WDH is your best bet. A Class 4 hitch won’t do anything for your problem. Timbrens are a good solution but the problem is not only do they compromise your suspension travel, but they tend to make the rear ride rough when you are unloaded.

The fact of the matter is the Raptor has soft rear springs and outside of a combo of WDH, Timbrens/Airbags that reduce your suspension travel, or replacing stock springs with Deavers, there isn’t much you can do.

That little trailer weighs 5200#, with 1 axle? I'd be more worried about trailer tires and bearings than a little sag.

But, a WDH should more than suffice and get the truck level.

I am also surprised at the weight on that trailer. Do you carry 2450-2750 lbs worth of cargo in it?

I tow an enclosed 4 place snowmobile trailer that runs about 5000 fully loaded. I use timbrens when I tow. I only run them when I am towing though, the truck is terrible with them in and unloaded. They go in and out with one bolt and take just a few minutes to swap out

I had the exact same problem pulling my 21’ Winnebago. The rear dropped 1 1/2 inches with the RV on it. I took it to Skip’s Springs in Las Vegas and he added a leaf and took out the sag. Didn’t change the highway ride or my off-roading performance. He did the the same thing on my 2010 Raptor 10yrs ago.

WDH hitch defiantly helps. I went with the Andersen WDH and I love it, super easy set up and it helped even out the truck and trailer. My trailer with the tractor is in the 6,000 lbs - 6,800 range.

I borrowed a 4500# trailer and drove it 1500 miles round trip. Did not have the spring bars on the wd hitch because my friend (a mechanic) didn’t think I’d need them for that light of a trailer. Went to an rv shop at the other end and he set me up right on the wd hitch, made a huge difference.

Btw- getting my own wdh installed Monday as I just bought a 3800# trailer, 7600# gross.
