Hey Everyone,I just bought a black 2014 SCrew with 109,*** miles - man this thing is nuts. I've had a wrx and a lifted tacoma in the past - this thing makes those seem like toys.
I bought it to replace my old v8 4runner. It will be my daily driver, and the adventure vehicle for my wife, me, and my dog. We plan on getting a trailer soon to do some more long-term camping trips around the southwest with plenty of off roading thrown in there.
I enjoy doing my own maintenance, but I also know when to call an expert if I'm out of my league on something - so im glad there's such a strong forum for these trucks, as I'm sure I'll be referencing tons of diy write ups.
I plan to do a transmission drain/fill, oil change, replace bulbs here and there, and replace some aftermarket parts (cai, exhaust, tires) that just aren't my style. Is there anything else you would get checked initially?
The vehicle was in NV and then CO for most of its life, and looks to be in pretty good shape. Clean carfax, regular maintenance, and no accidents. I checked the back of the cab and the bump stops for signs of jumping, and didn't see any damage. It has definitely been used off road though, and has some scrapes on the skid plates and other undercarriage spots.
I'll have to take some pics tomorrow/when I figure out how, but I'm fairly sure it's got aftermarket headers (possibly Stainless Works?) - when I was inspecting the engine bay I saw what looked like a little metal piece with SW cut out of it welded onto one of the header pipes. It definitely has an aftermarket exhaust too - it's pretty damn loud and drones at highway speeds, so I'll have to work on getting it to be a bit more tame since I plan on doing some longer road trips to remote areas with this.
At any rate, it's awesome to finally own one of my dream cars since I always thought these were kind of unattainable (for me). The pandemic has caused my wife and I to get more serious about doing more camping and off roading, so I figured it would be best to get a truck that's a bit over-engineered for what we need, and comfortable.
