Thank you so much for the help! I test drive the gen 2 2017 SCAB today. Felt like a great truck! Only problem was the rear tires look sketchy, was told they meet safety. I demanded tires and ended up walking out. I had negotiated the deal on good faith that the truck was in dealership quality. And the truck has 86k on it. Would this be too high of miles to buy out of warranty? It is a very nice truck otherwise. I got the price down a few thousand, but would have to drop ~$1500 on new tires pretty quickly.
Make them put new tires on it, won't cost them $1500, more like 500. Call them back and see if they changed there mind, tell them you're about to pull the trigger on another truck, but wanted to give them one last chance. Otherwise I would walk, I'm stubborn like that, there's always another truck.

Also, anyone know how many pages an oasis report should be? I asked for the report and it only had 2 pages, one was the vin breakdown and the 2 recalls, and the other some worthless info. I had expected maintenance records and such. Did they withhold that or is it not part of oasis?

Maintenance will not be in OASIS unless it was under a Ford Service Contract. However, if the vehicle’s maintenance was done at a dealer, they should still be able to pull the records using the Ford Scheduled Maintenance Tool website.

I have read hundreds of posts on here now. I have learned enough to be thoroughly confused. I could either fold and buy the 17 SCAB with 86k for $46, or I could grab a 2012 SCREW with 86k for $40k out the door. I am normally very decisive and know exactly what I want. In this case I am at a loss. It looks like the 17 deal is dead if they won’t throw in tires, but a 9 year old truck for $40k seems crazy.... what will happen to that value when the gen 3 is released?

what are the chances you have fresh rubber on the ’12?

how shagged are the ’17 tires? Are the KO2’s or something else?
Is the wear pattern unusual, or even? You mentioned rears, are the fronts same brand, just look less worn? that could be they didn’t rotate as often as needed and these trucks favor an aggressive rotation schedule.

What about the spare?

One thing about having old tires on it, you can see what the use pattern looks like. 86k over 4 years is pretty high, but, almost certainly containing a big portion of highway miles, which are pretty easy on the whole truck. Unless they were bouncing of the speed limiter the whole time but not likely.

46 isn’t a horrible deal for a Rap even at that mileage.

The 12 does have fresh rubber. I’m just worried about suspension parts, bushings and such. I don’t have the time at this stage of life to chase problems.

Well it’s obviously not a perfect time to buy a Raptor new or used unless you can score a deal. So you and the dealer are at odd’s over a deal over some rubber? You said you got them down a couple of grand. That’s good. But in there mind they gave you something. Asking for tires may not fly. It may under different times, but they know the used market and it will be a while before new Raptors are plentiful. If the truck seems cherry and you looked at as much maintenance records and car fax as you can, try and meet in the middle if you really want it.

A 2012 truck to me at over 8 years old, would be looked at more of a project to me. I would expect to have to make some repairs soon. If your past this at your stage in life, then buy a newer truck. Also maybe get a warranty with it.

Of this truck never had cam phaser warranty work at this point. I would bet it won’t be an issue. From most that I have seen, that would have shown it ugly head years ago.

However so this. Try to score a deal and maybe meet in the middle with those tires if you really like the ‘17. Or get the ****, out of there to be blunt. It’s not worth the aggravation and look for another. If you can quickly meet at some happy point with them, that little extra money isn’t major and beats an ulcer. Unless your a guy that likes a good fight LOL

Good luck. If you get a truck, throw a picture or two up of it. The least you can do for us at this point. Now get your big boy pants on and throw a deal at them with tires or take some cost off the truck. I know it sometimes takes a push.

go 45,200 on the 2017. 45.5k would be acceptable in my mind. You said you liked it. go over it well before signing anything. Time is money. I’ll haggle over a big difference but a couple hundred I’m not sweating.

Now, go forth and procure a Raptor, this one or another... or be branded a prius owner.

I already told them to take $500 off and they said no. If you take away my high TN taxes, I was going to get this truck for $41.239 plus ttl. Not too bad, but I have to stand my ground or I’ll always feel like I got ripped off a set of tires.
