Before moving to San Diego we looked at many places within the country. Nothing comes close.

The cost of living is higher, but wages are higher too. And if you have a good paying job, you'll love it.

I got my Raptor from out state, no problems with smog, registration, etc.. Just follow the rules, bring all necessary papers to MVD and you'll be fine. I think CA has more Raptors (modded or no) than any other state :)

I once legitimately tried to get in the wrong Raptor when I lived in HB and had my gen 1. (End space parked two rows over exactly like I'd parked mine).

Wrong on all accounts. More people leaving than entering, you can look up the stats yourself, fairly easy to find as California is one of the top 4 states in terms of exodus. Also for California it isn’t based only on mileage to be considered used. It also needs to be at least 2 years old. If you’ve hit 7500 miles and it’s only 1 year old, still isn’t considered used here. I just bought a vehicle in Texas this past summer and had to get it inspected here and this is what I was told.

That is insane. I have a 2020 150 that is a year old with 25k miles on it... I should sell it as new and site their awful emissions laws as proof that it is in fact new.

The larger problem with CA DMV is that 90% of people who work there have no clue what they're doing. You can easily ask 2 people for rules on emissions and registrations, and you'll receive 3 different answers. And unfortunately I'm not joking on that...

In most basic form, you'd need the following:
- GVW certificate
- Smog check certificate
- Visual inspection certificate (done at DMV)
- Existing Title and Registration (or copy if one)
- Credit Card or Check to cover registration fees and tax

On the last point, you can also do "relocation" part to save on taxes. I'll let you research that point on your own.

Good luck!

I've done extensive research on this same conundrum, I can say the ADD FMIC IS CARB legal (it's a rebranded aFe unit but ADD did jump through whatever legal hoops to get it certified). I have yet to find a CARB legal intake however that one isn't as big of a PITA to change back to stock for an inspection and reinstall later.

Ultimately I'm looking at moving to Salt Lake or Las Vegas instead, I miss California a lot (mostly scenery and food), but you guys are right, it's pay to play there and I don't feel like playing anymore.

This conversation went about as expected for anyone mentioning California. Beautiful state, awesome camping, beaches, offroading, biking, boating... pretty much whatever your flavor of recreational activity is, you can do it. But no CaLiFoRnIa bAd... lol get outta here.

Cost of Living? Sure, imagine thinking that a beautiful place wouldn't be in demand to live in, ipso facto more expensive. I get it there are some silly laws and things that people don't like but honestly, acting like its some hell hole wasteland? get the **** outta here... you're more than welcome to move to Kentucky or West Virginia.

Only thing to add to @dreys post; Registration must be completed NLT 90 days after smog is completed. Visual inspection is VERY easy. A walk around and a VIN check.

Oh and on the first page the person said they failed with CARB compliant components, but no sticker visible... I didn't have mine visible and simply proved they were CARB compliant and was out the door no problem. Seriously people want to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Talk with the tech, they will understand.
