Any Gen 1 owners that have thought about it? Mine has some high miles on it. Will probably go for a while still but when she goes my plan is to keep it. Thoughts?

At more weight, (edited, someone pointed out it weights 7 lbs less)
the big 7.3-liter gasser makes about 23.1 horsepower and 37.8 lb-ft of torque more than the 6.2-liter at the top end.
It's purely designed for work trucks not high performance trucks.

You would better off building the 6.2 L

Pretty sure it is not heavier. I’ll look for the link where this was discussed.

But still, this is not a big increase in power to justify the cost of trying to make it work in Raptor
You probably won't find a Tuner willing to even spend their time and money to make it work.
But I've seen strange things before, who knows.

You'd be better off with the new 5.2L and a supercharger kit.

Better yet, invest in getting the 10 speed tranny to work.
The 6.2L with the 10 speed would be a killer solution.

Post 90 discusses the weight difference.

Also this is just my opinion, but the use case for the 7.3 and the 6.2 don’t seem that dissimilar. Both are used in super duty’s and you could apply the same ratio to determine a reasonable output for 7.3 in a “raptor” configuration. Would be nice to only have to swap one cam rather than two, etc.

As for potential power output REVan Evan’s YouTube videos show the 7.3 has some potential. Not sure all the details but they built one and are putting it in a mustang drag car.

Having said all of that I have never been involved in an engine swap that was not like for like so I can imagine they would be a hassle unless someone makes a kit for it.

Would be nice, but we would need a Gen 1 guy with deep pockets to be our R&D guy.

I would love to do this swap as the 7.3L can make tons of power without forced induction.

But, there's a lot of obstacles to make this work.

And, when we are talking custom one off stuff, a whipple on a 6.2L sounds cheaper lol
