I'm guessing, not sure how else they would do it, I think the future is fascinating and looking forward to this technology.[/QUOTE

Speaking of the Future, who would have ever thought Harley Davidson would release the Live Wire electric motorcycle and,

The Serial 1 Electric bicycles

These are far from what they had originally shown below

Sounds a bit better than glorified though. With the current 400W inverter, you have to start the truck to provide power, and it will only run idle for 30 minutes before it shuts down. With this new system, the engine will remain running as long as it detects a load. Sounds as if you won't even have to start the truck yourself either. If you plug something in the back, the engine will fire up with enough rpms to meet the load? That part sounds a little concerning, as anyone could just plug in the back and start draining your fuel without having any keyfob access to the truck.

On a similar side note...does this and a new measurement stat to the truck? If a truck is used as a generator on a regular basis, wouldn't that have an significant image on the value of the truck. A 2 year old truck with 20K miles is not the same as 2 year old truck with 20k miles and 2000 hours running idle as a generator.
I stick with my original comment "glorified", lol. That is something to think about, though, I wonder if Ford will put an hour meter on the truck, lol, I doubt it though, do any diesel trucks have those yet? They idle at job sites for hours some times.

Ford surely won't put in on until regulations require it or customers start asking for it. And I doubt customers will ask for it, since it could hurt resale value...unless its something they can clear out before sale.

And while it's original purpose may be for worksites, camping and such, you're going to see some people using this in unexpected ways. You're going to see people at a park running bouncy houses off their trucks for little Billy's birthday party.

I think once again technology is going to places it's never been before and being used as people in the real world would use it.

Electric bicycles are a huge market and some carry a hefty price tag $6k plus

I would hope that it's more geared towards the construction industry, not the average soccer MOM, but who knows. In less than 20 years all cars will be plugged in, unless they (scientist) can come up with efficient solar power built in systems.

20 years seems aggressive to me. That volume of batteries is going to create huge disposal issues. And I assume you mean hybrids, not full EV. EVs still have issues to be resolve that make them not useful for certain functions.

Nope, I meant EV's, up here in Beautiful British Columbia car manufacturers have until 2040 to 100% sell only fully non-carbon based vehicles, no gas powered allowed to be sold here (new vehicles), so that leaves either EV or Hydrogen powered vehicles. It's the same in a lot of other areas of the world. I'm not happy about it, thought the v8 would be around for ever, but ........

There are a lot of electric bicycles around here, I don't have on yet, I still use my own legs, but It would be nice as we have a lot of hills around here. Would probably use it more if I had an electric one, hmmmm

At least in the US, these government mandates to reach some goal by some date always (often) get pushed back when it turns out that it's not possible. Not sure what the market is up there, but EVs make us such a tiny fraction of sales, don't have the needed infrastructure, and don't meet the needs of so many...I just don't think it's possible.

I rarely see people use bikes for transportation, they are for recreation/exercise. I don't see kids ridding bikes anymore. I will say that golf carts have are becoming rather popular, which makes a lot more sense for many areas since they carry much more and are much more visible to vehicles than an electric bike. Probably cheaper too.
