A modded GEN1 outperform this new GEN2.

You don’t say? A vehicle can be modified to out perform a stock one?? :emotions34::emotions34::emotions34:

Just for a stock raptor that is supposed to be so much better by leaps and bounds and so much superior, yada-yada, etc... that it fell short of that extreme promise. You can say what you want, don’t really care. It wasn’t that big of a difference to make someone go, Wow this thing is day and night difference.

It’s understood that you “don’t care”. You have your own biased opinion. But don’t confuse it with the facts, which go against everything you’re claiming.

A modded GEN1 outperform this new GEN2. When I owned both my wife went off-road with me in the GEN2. She told me that she no longer wanted to ride in it, it wasn’t as smooth as my GEN1. Took her out on the same 40 mile off-road trail with my GEN1 and she was yep, I’ll ride in this.

So yeah, I will pull off these suspension parts and upgrade them to get it back to what I was used to. But I would of thought my GEN1 upgraded 3.0 shocks would at least have a similar ride with the stock GEN2 3.0’s and supposedly better suspension. Nope

Not impressed on the daily drive either, my GEN1 was funnier to drive. I mean don’t get me wrong, technology wise, its a better truck. It just isn’t that so awesome that you want to say it is.

So I can have my opinion and you can have yours about the GEN2 and I can just hope it gets better with the GEN3, hence what this thread is about. I have a 2020 so I can wait.

So the cliff notes .........

a modded truck suspension feels better than a stock truck suspension. Also a truck that is heavier and has less hp and less tq is more fun to drive than a truck that is lighter and has more hp and more tq.

My wife is nervous that I'll trade in the Gen2 for Gen3...Having Minor mods and making the Gen2 "mine" has made me happy so unless the Gen3 is ridiculously amazing I'd have no reason to switch until later in the new chassis lifecycle. I think that it is understandable to say "My Modified GenX is better than the new Generation." But saying that stock vs stock it is better is pretty bold. I can point to another vehicle where I have felt this though: the Toyota Tacoma. I "felt" like the Gen1.5 Tacoma was more tough and capable than the Gen2 and 2.5. There are a number of reasons that older generations "feel" better though since usually companies have to trade off feedback for comfort and comfort for capability, etc. Just feeling something doesn't make it a reality though.

Agreed. Too many people don't understand the concept of "enough". Gen 2 is enough. Late in the cycle is best anyway. Let the early buyers overpay and find the defects. If gen 3 only has a V8 or if the hybrid is too heavy/costly, then I'd prefer a used low mileage garage queen gen 2.

A lot of folks don't like apples-to-apples comparisons because then their pet loses.

My '85 Toy was hell for stout. My '91 was disappointing. Then came Taco gen 1, which was even flimsier. Each generation of Taco since has been less robust, IMO. But, like you say, that doesn't make it reality.

I hope they make engine options in the raptor. Whatever v8 they plug into it it would also be nice to option a 5.0l in it or the 3.5l tt.

You stated that you need a V8 in the Gen 3, but the rant above has nothing to do with engine, only shocks. Your modded/custom shocks vs the stock Gen 2 shocks.

I agree with the general concept that because these trucks, all trucks really, can be heavily modded, it's not uncommon for the modded truck you own to be a better truck than the latest and greatest truck option.

But really stock vs stock is the only way to compare, unless a particular mod is particularly easy/cheap on one Gen, and not possible/expensive on another.
