Hey Folks,

Curious to see if anyone has ever replaced the back window on a Gen 2 Raptor via aftermarket so the window can go down in its entirety...not just the small portion in the middle. Does anyone know if this is even possible? Curious to hear some thoughts.

Thanks a bunch.

I'm gonna say not possible as the cab would have to have a place for the window to roll down into...

It can be done. You just need to go to a custom car builder and drop off a suitcase of cash. Probably 10k to pull that off.

.. or buy yourself a Tundra. It has that feature from the factory. Tundra is cheaper too!

Does Toyota have some kind of patent on the roll down back window on a pickup truck? I can’t understand why no other truck maker has that feature.

Toyota more than likely sacrificing weight, interior room, additional potential storage/seat adjustability features etc to accommodate for the slide down window is my guess

other makes would have re-engineer or drop other aspects of their trucks design to replicate, not cost effective

oh & btw- as cute as that novelty is- and would be occasionally helpful w/ wide long bulk items I suppose- my dad had a tundra w/ this feature & it’s annoying you can’t really have it partially down if it’s drizzling get crazy wind turbulence, if you forget it’s down & leave it out overnight interior gets soaked, but the sideways sliding rear portal windows this doesn’t seem to happen, but on the tundras the water just rolls off the top of the roof & into the cab

it’s nice but there are also drawbacks

The issue is quality control and costs.

When Toyota makes rear window to go down, it works.

When Ford makes rear window to go down, there will be a line at the dealer for warranty issues.

On top of it, Ford is about cutting costs as much as they can (example rear windows are not automatic, missing lights for PRND shifter, fewer LEDs on side mirrors on later models, plastic oil pans on earlier F150s, etc, etc, etc..). No way they'll add an expensive feature, knowing their trucks sell as is without it.

Ford can't get their sunroofs working right, not sure they have enough what it takes to tackle the rear window.

Do you really think that no other maker is willing to give it a try with a roll down back window? All the Tundra guys seem to love it, that’s normally a hint for competition to take notice at least.

I personally wouldn’t use it, I never roll any of my windows down anytime of year. But it does puzzle me a bit.
