Mode shift engagement question

So here’s my question. This is my first raptor. When shifting into different modes either on the steering wheel or with the knob you must stop and wait until the mode is complete, correct? I think I learned the hard way and tell me if this happened to you. The first time I was doing around 5 miles an hour and shifted into sport mode. Waited a few seconds and hit the gas lightly And heard a bang like it wasn’t engaged. The second time was yesterday. I stopped completely switched into four high and waited until I saw it on my dash took off a little bit and heard a bang again. I’m hoping I didn’t damage anything since everything is still running fine but do I need to wait maybe like 30 seconds or something after I switch into modes? Thanks for your help

No. Usually only when shifting into 4L.
I shift into sport mode/4A/4H at all different speeds at least under 60mph.
The bang was probably your trans adjusting to sport mode. Never noticed this with mine.
Try it while doing a steady 25mph. It should go in smoothly.

What he said. It's best if you're not on the gas while the shift takes place. Strain on the drivetrain can cause a delay and then a bang when the shift finally happens, so stay off the gas until it completes.

Yup. Will do that for now on. I'm still nervous about shifting while driving.

As others have mentioned, stay off the gas. I will take it one further and throw it into neutral then back into drive after the shift if no one is directly behind me and I can coast for a few seconds.

A slight neutral coast will take off any driveline pressure. For 4L at least.

I know the manual states to let off the gas pedal when selecting modes or shifting to 4wh but I've always just kept a steady speed and haven't had any issues or noises doing either.

I never switch into 4A or 4H while on the throttle or while turning the steering wheel

Aside from shifting into 4L (via knob on the dash, or through “Rock Crawl” mode on the steering wheel), you can change modes at any normal speeds.

The change between normal and sport is the most commonly used, and I have never felt a bang of any kind while doing so.

The electronics will tell you when you are doing something wrong. I have gone back and fourth between 2wd and AWD at 80mph. Like most say, just lift and coast.

If you try and go into 4low while moving, it will scream at you and not let you do it.
