Sometimes I really hate people.

Walked out to my truck this morning and found a cable dangling from the rear end. Automatically figured some a-hole stole my spare.

I have no idea what they damaged or how they stole the tire....been trying to find a picture of what it looked like before they stole it but haven’t had much luck.

I called the dealer to see if they can give me an estimate.

They said the wheel, tire and winch (that holds the tire) would run just under $3,000 with labor which seems absolutely ridiculous. The bulk of the cost has to be the wheel (I have the bead lock capable wheels).

Wanted to see if any of you had a similar unfortunate experience or have a suggestion on how I should fix this issue.

I’ll update with a picture once it stops raining.

Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated.

That sucks!! First I would try to find someone that will sell you a spare. Perhaps you could diy the winch if it needs to be replaced.

Did they tear the lock out of the bumper? There’s no way to turn the winch since the tire is in the way. Unless they flattened the tire.

Post pics when you can.

That’s f-ed up. $3k seems steep. You shouldn’t need labor other mounting the tire. It’s a spare. It’s meant to be user installed.

here, on frf
it was semi common with the gen 1. they usually cut the cable and take the spare. find a spare here and maybe check tasca for the rest of the parts. but send that estimate to the insurance company. thats a hell of a bill for that

Thanks guys. Here are some pics I took. Not the greatest as it’s raining and I didn’t want to lay under the truck.

Damn that sucks. Looks like the cable was cut? The rim is about $700 retail. You can get a used one or takeoff for half that on ebay. Then another $300 for a tire. The classifieds forums also has a bunch for sale generally local pickup.

Thanks again for the replies. With regard to the mounting system, is there a bracket or something that they took with them or does the tire just sit there held with the winch mechanism?

Yup. Looks like they cut the cable but how did they even squeeze in there to cut the cable at the top?
