hmm well then im not sure what else it could be. i did the same exact steps as you and dont have any pump noise and that is while turning 39"s. if it were me, i would go one more round with an oem pump and really try to get out all the old contaminant and air as much as feasibly possible would even go as far as to try pull fuse 27 and give the motor a couple cranks just to be sure the air is out before full start up.

that lee kit looks nice and well built but i seriously think its overkill. and not questioning your mech ability but id say if you cant get the oem pump to operate as intended i would be extremely hesitant to try your hand installing the lee kit. you can burn up those pumps upon install just the same as the oem ones.

do you think there may be metal residues? maybe I badly flushed the system but I changed all the fluid 2 times...


do you know if there are some valves in the system? maybe some residues are stuck in the valves...?

In my opinion you could preface the pump with ford oem 10 times over before matching the cost of the Lee. I know you said you bled it correct with the vacuum pump but all I did was jack up the front end motor off and turn the wheel lock to lock to flush out the old fluid, replaced the pump, filled it up, turn the wheel to fluid comes out the lines, secure lines fill and turn wheel lock to lock until fluid is at the correct level.


Have had zero issues since. What bleeding process are you using are you potentially running a dry pump during the process?

Not really. A new ford pump from rock auto is $200. So, thats 6.5 pumps...lol. And you still need reservoir upgrade for the OEM pump, RPG's is $350, SDHQ's is $400. So those eat up the price of two pumps. So you're down to 4 pump replacements when buying a reservoir, and the lee kit includes a reservoir.

Then you have the inconvenience of the factory pump failing again and again... no thanks. Lee setup is one and done. I haven't even replaced the fluid yet from when I installed it. I think I may do that soon, and replace the filter...lol

How frequently have you been replacing the filter? I have been run the GJ reservoir w/filter and cooler since April. Figured I would go about a year between filter changes.

ok so even if you go the route of the new reservoir, which i debate on the actual benefits of even adding the cooler seems debatable as there already is a factory cooler, my pump went out at 75k miles. whos to say this new pump wont last another 75k? at the end of it i guess it goes back to the whole "it depends" statement as a climate and level of play can significant change the discussion. does the OP "need" the lee pump. prob not but i am the last person to be arguing the "need" for anything lol

This, but i bought my truck with a bad pump, and the new stock pump I put in went 5k miles before failing on an offroad trip. Driving the truck out of the desert for 60 miles with no power steering was something I never wanted to do again.

I haven't replaced it...lol

so, i think these days i will order the lee kit

Correct. Just normal power steering pump noises after upgrading.
