Towing Set-ups??

This thread has popped up at a very good time for me. We're thinking about getting a travel trailer (dry weight = 5819, tongue weight = 705) and I plan to pull it with the Raptor. After watching a video or 2 about the weight distribution hitch I feel like that is the way to go. Two questions ...

1. Where is the smartest place to get one? Online? Camping World? Local shop?
2. Is this something I should have them set up or something I should just do myself in the driveway?

The Raptor is only rated to tow 5000 lbs if you don't have a WDH, or 8000 lbs with a WDH (those numbers are for a SCrew...only 6000 lbs with a WDH for a SCab). So getting a WDH is definitely the way to go!

I pull a 6k wakesurf boat (TIGE) beautifully up mountain roads and across the desert on my 2018. I did begin to feel uncomfortable with the sag, so in preparation for a (1400 mile) Lake Powell trip last sumer I purchased and installed SUMO SPRINGS which acted like a taller bumpstop. The ride was not as fluffy as stock, but I like them because I can remove/replace them in about 1/2 and hour and they were about $150. Hope this helps.

Get the trailer place to install it and show you how to use it properly. It took me a few times on my own to figure out how to do it the right way, you should learn from guys that do it all day long, they are pro's. Every truck and trailer is different, they are not all set up the same way, even with the same hitch.

I agree. The RV deallership pretty much had a requirement that any tandem axle trailer being towed off their lot had to have the tow vehicle with a WD hitch. They provided mine and set it up while we did the walk-through. Their price for the hitch was about the same had I bought it myself somewhere else.

I pull a 22’ fully loaded at about 5500# with no issues. I installed the Icon leafs and SVC hydraulic bump stops in the rear with the Eibach springs up front. I’m amazed at how well it pulls and handles the weight. Very solid setup.

One of the RV dealers we talked to said my truck could pull 10k. I knew that was a load of crap. I won't go back there. When we finally decide what to get I will discuss the WD hitch.

Can and should are two different topics. The F150 with the same ish motor can do 10K. The only difference is the shocks. I have done over 10K with the Raptor. It's doable. Should you? Well I mean look at all the Diesel Excursions doing big tow without the rating. It's about what YOU and your rig can handle together, IMO. Putting the right mods on a raptor to make it tow even better is the answer. I won't go Diesel Tow Pig unless I'm going to a 40ft Goose down the road.

I’ve towed my enclosed (near or just over 8000lbs) many times now, first few times were on stock springs front and rear. Now I have Geiser springs up front, Icon rear in setup 2, and SVC bump stop with 2.5 Fox cans I can raise/lower as needed. I still need to get a power tank setup to adjust pressures. Other than a sway issue one time (crosswind and I didn’t install the anti sway) I’ve had no issues. When the kids get older I’ll need to upgrade to a bigger tow rig but right now it is good enough.

Towing Set-ups??
