GEN 2 Tire Question

I hit a nail with one of my tires within a year of getting the truck (mid 2018), the dealer said they would have to replace the tire because it punctured the sidewall.

I noticed today the tire has a patch on it and the $500 "new" tire wasn't actually new, perhaps a refurbished? Is this standard practice? The tire manufacture date is "3118" which was obviously beyond when I received the truck.

where is the patch?

Only if you don’t tell them it’s for a Raptor. If you do, the tire is still $269, but a $231 Raptor Tax is applied.

Sorry, I don't know the technical terms, the brown spot on the tire where it looks like it is covering/filling a gash.

Ok, is that actually a rubbery like compound? if you hit it with a bristle brush, does it rub off?

I’ve never seen a patch or plug done that way, but that’s not to say it doesn’t happen. Most tire places will tell you no plugs or patches within about an inch of the side wall and def. not in the side wall itself.

if you got charged that much money for a patched or plugged tire you definitely got robbed. if they sold you a new tire and that’s what you got and that is a patch or plug, they owe you a new tire or a refund. what does the receipt say?

and yeah for 500 it sounds like they are charging you for rubber tree growth from a sapling, all the way through mounting and balancing.

That looks like it will wash off, not a patch.

Not a patch, just some road **** you must have picked up. I can't imagine any new car dealership would sell a tire that was plugged/patched.

I`m confused, You had the tire pick up a nail in 2019 and the dealer " replaced " it for $500.- and a year later you notice something that looks like a patch? A true patch from the inside of the tire is a legit fix but with the damage being from a nail you would not see any of the patch or adhesive that is used due to the construction of the tire itself.

This company specializes is selling used tires which are not always a bad choice when have a lease or your on a budget. The tires are sold by make, size and tread depth which allows you to match as closely as possible to the rest of your tires. My sidewall puncture was merely a flesh wound. I was able to pull that out and keep the tire as it did no damage Beyond the tread.

The dealer still told me I should buy a new tire from them (of course).
