This is a great source of info. Been reading a lot and learning a lot. I've always performed my own maintenance. I've had Toyotas (still do) for decades and can pretty much do the oil changes on the Tacoma/4Runner/GX much in my sleep. Just got a little under 1K miles on the engine and wanted to swap out the initial factory oil.

Watched videos and read dozens of threads on oil changes on the Raptor. The filter location... well no sense of complaining about it.

I'm also a huge fan of Fumoto and for this truck it's even more useful considering the drain plug location in relation to the skid plate.

Always used AMSOIL and this truck will be no different. Used Sigseries 0W-30 with AMSOIL filter.

The only part I got wrong (fortunately I had cardboard to catch the oil) was the oil filter drain port. I thought it would flow towards the front (which it does when I fully took the filter off) when I cracked it and let it drain. I quickly found out there is another drain port further towards the rear where there is a nice square cut out. Lesson learned for next change.

The funnel idea was from reading and watching all the videos on the oil hitting the skid plate and causing a mess. I also used my Pella Pump to extract most of the oil from top side to eliminate the 6qt flowing out of the drain plug. That helped a lot for this first time. The Fumoto will be used on subsequent changes.

Cleaned up the filter drain tray and coated the screws for the skid plate sections with anti-seize. Took about 90 minutes. That should be cut down to 60 minutes with the fumoto and now understanding the workflow.

Thanks for all the info here. Extremely helpful.

I purchased Fumoto SX model for this truck and have yet to install it, waiting for next oil change. What's the torque spec for the install? I ask this because I installed Stahlbus unit few months ago and torqued it too much and it broke and almost had a heart attack, but with a screw I was unscrew the thread and remove. I want to avoid making the same mistake twice!
