For those of you who still believe the fake news that FordTechOne typically spouts, here is why the passenger car version (the Raptor version) of the Ecoboost can't handle 600+crank horsepower. The reason is that the Ford GT version is a hand built race motor with far more exotic internals...


That engine would probably cost as much as a base Raptor if Ford put it in their parts catalog. They would never do that, though, as it's just too expensive for the power it makes.

The Le Mans cars had even more exotic engines. Billet blocks, billet cranks, not even built by Ford, each of which cost more to build than the retail price of any F-150 that has ever existed.

Fake news. As always. 600 crank is really the upper safe limit. We have seen this since 2017 when Hennessey started putting upgraded turbos on these trucks. They don't do that anymore. Too many bottom end failures.

Maybe you should let Hennessey know that they’re no longer selling their 600HP VelociRaptor; they must not have got the memo from you:

The 2017 VelociRaptor had different turbos but it was found that they could make the same target power with the factory ones.

How many times do you need to get proven wrong before you stop wasting space on here...there is no “passsnger car version” of the Gen II 3.5 EcoBoost in the Raptor. Are you slow or just that ignorant?

The Raptor 3.5 handles 600 crank HP just fine, hence why Hennessey continues to sell their VelociRaptor with 600HP and a 3yr/36k warranty. Why do you continue to troll these forums spouting off about things you know nothing about?

Each engine is hand built from the ground up, taking a total of 105 hours from start of production through final build and dyno testing. Starting with the heads from the Ford Cleveland Engine Plant and blocks from the Lima Engine Plant. The Cylinder Head team works meticulously to hand blend the ports, while the Engine Block team utilizes the Rottler F69A to hone the blocks to the nth degree of accuracy. Precision and accuracy are key for these two main engine components. The engine itself is composed of 1,600 parts. This masterpiece begins with over 80% of the OEM components from the twin-turbo Ford EcoBoost V6 production platform. In order to make the engine race ready additional parts are sourced or manufactured in-house at Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions facility.

When I see a tuner say its blowing head gaskets because of boost, they instantly loose credibility with me. I could see a valve spring issues, but the tuned stock turbos already run around 20psi. Moving to a full frame (like an EFR or Garret Gseries) would make significantly more power at the same boost levels due to better pressure ratios (and more flow at those pr's) on both the compressor and turbine and colder charge temps.

You can't compare a Le Mans engine to saying a raptor 3.5 can't make 700. It's two different things.

But I'm not going to argue with someone that doesn't know what they're talking about.

This is a great thread. I LOVE my gen 2 but PorterW111's gen 1 is so sick it makes me wish I had it in my garage next to my gen 2. I don't think I would prefer one over the other. Two totally different trucks, which is why I love where we are at in time right now. Two totally different trucks and both are badass.

And, FordTechOne, you are still a huge asset on this site. I hadn't seen a post from you in a bit and I honestly was reading some posts yesterday and thought, "Where the hell is FT1? I hope he didn't get sick of explaining things to us novices."

Go for the gen1!

I love my Gen1, but my buddy's gen2 is also a really nice truck. I wouldn't mind having a gen2 to be honest. But I don't see the point in 2 raptors. My next truck will be a newer f250 or ram 2500 diesel (in addition to the raptor, that's not going anywhere lol). Something to tow the toys. Looking into two car (40') trailers for track days, etc to support the team.

I definitely prefer the V8 noises to the 3.5EB. But the 10 speed trans is an animal. I wouldn't mind figuring out how to put the 10 speed behind the 6.2. Its the same bell housing pattern as a 5.0, so it'll bolt up. Damn, now I'm thinking...lol

I went Gen 1 for longevity. I’ve had Ecoboosts in an F-150 personal truck and now my work truck. Both of them run strong and they’re quick, but I don’t trust them to get me in and out of the middle of no where like I do my 6.2 when they start getting up there in mileage.

As it pertains to the interiors, I really don’t mind my 2013. I have front and rear cameras and Sync 2 gives me everything I need/want. I didn’t want sensors on every single thing. Not saying they’re going to fail, but I wanted to limit the chance of having something simple go wrong with the amount of modern electronics in the newer trucks. I have a ‘17 platinum work truck and it has wayyyyy more sh*t than I need, similar to a Gen 2. For me and most people, the Gen 1 is definitely able to suit your needs.

What it ultimately came down to for me, is that I don’t want to have to buy anything for the next 10-15 years. So, I found my truck with 51,800 on the odometer and bought it. What I came to find after purchasing my Gen 1 and getting it here, was that I didn’t need to mod it nearly as much as I had an anticipated. For example, I thought 3.0’s would be a must and after driving it for 9K miles in 2 1/2 months, it’s going to get a rebuild, revalve and Geiser springs for 1/5 of the cost and that will make me happy. A good tune from JDM tune to wake it up a little and make it a little more economical on the Highway and a few cosmetic things to make it my own. These trucks are solid otherwise.

I’m going to drive it until the wheels fall off and then put them back on and keep driving it more!
