COAL POWER PLANTS, YES COAL. The majority of electricity still comes from good old fashion coal power plants still.
RANT ALL YOU WANT!

Its too bad the facts don't support your statement.

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/us-energy-facts/

37% of the US power production is electricity. Coal is only about 1/3.

Petroleum 36.7% x 1% = 0.4%
Natural gas 32.1% x 36% = 11.5%
Renewable energy 11.5% x 56% = 6.4%
Coal 11.3% x 90% = 10.2%
Nuclear 8.5% x 100% = 8.5%

619 ... San Diego area code. So you are just another annoying know-it-all California ****. That whole state really needs to slide into the pacific for the betterment of mankind.

Do you want to answer the question as to why you think a hybrid is more efficient than a comparable gas only vehicle? I'm not a know-it-all, I'm just not an idiot. So here, I'll make it easier for you. I'll make it multiple choice with only two possible answers.

1) JFM (just ******* magic)

ORRRRrrrrrr

2) Using fossil fuels to generate electricity and using it to propel a vehicle is more efficient than using fossil fuels alone to propel a vehicle (a concept you found laughable a few minutes ago)

Lets see if you can get this one right.

Let me ask you this, why do you think a hybrid is more efficient than a comparable gas only vehicle even though it has the added weight of batteries and electric motors?

That depends on what you mean by efficiency. The hybrid is going to be more fuel efficient since the fuel is converted to more useful energy...that being moving the vehicle from point A to B. However, it may not be more cost efficient if the cost of fuel is not enough to make up for the added cost of buying a hybrid. And that is from the car owner's perspective. Efficiency for a societal perspective is entirely different, taking the costs of production and disposal into consideration, and what energy sources are used to produce the vehicle.

There's also the fact we tend to use energy sources more efficiently the more we use them. ICE certainly have, and you could make an argument that looking at electric motors is going to slow progress in ICE. As well, we surely would be much further along with EVs if hard started developing them decades ago.

And of course, if efficiency really was all that mattered, then we all should be walking, riding bikes or staying home, but practicality and other things also matter obviously. The point is that I don't think these are simple questions that you can only look at from one angle. Certain vehicles are going to make sense for certain people in certain situations. Maybe one day we'll invent Mr Fusion and won't have any more worries about energy.

By efficient, I mean a more efficient use (conversion if you want to get technical) of energy. Dealing with the economics is a whole different ball game.

Walking isn't an option. Gas/hybrid/ev will all get you from point A to B in the same amount of time but their energy consumption is different. If we want to keep from moving this discussion into ridiculousness, we have to have comparable forms of locomotion.

O wow! You can copy and paste some words from a website, good for you. Let me know when you have first hand experience actually working in the energy and recycling industry like I do. I see your profile says you are from California so this makes sense to me now. I know the real facts form having first hand experience in the industry, end of story. Read articles from the news and internet all you want, we all know that those tell the truth 100% of the time, especially news in California lol. On a different note, the whole reason why the governor of California is banning ICE vehicles is because of pollution right? You could put every single car in America in the state of California, and it wouldn't even come close to the pollution the California fires have caused over just the past couple weeks haha. Just some food for thought. Now im all for clean energy im not trying to be some big advocate for gas. But the technology is just simply not there right now! Last but not least, here's a funny picture of an electric car being charged by a diesel generator for some laughs lol.

@Diesel71 still waiting on that genius answer bud... I see you lurking.

Oh, that generator above? It will produce more miles for every gallon burned if it's used to generate electricity than it would if it was used to directly move the vehicle forward.

You responded to say that but won't pick one of the two options? Wonder why that might be! lol. It's ok, you don't have to admit to finally seeing the blinding light.

Look on the bright side, you're smarter now than you were this morning. You're welcome

@06viper You might have first hand experience, but must be regional. The facts I quoted are from the Trump Administration. The fact is coal produces only 11.3% of the energy in the US and 90% of the Coal is used for electricity production, that's less than 1/3 of the total electricity production of 37%. I know fact are hard to read and understand. I doubt you have any fist hand knowledge of California politics, so let me know when....

How come you aren’t on the Prius forums and are on the Raptor forums instead? I’m sure there’s lots of threads about MPG and stuff on there.
