GEN 2 2018 Sync is DOA

I see... so it was really DAA (dead after arrival), not DOA. ;)

I had Sync issues in my 2019 at 2300 miles. Stopped by dealership when it happened to document problem (reverse camera stayed on for duration of trip). The dealership said the Sync module needed replaced, and that it was a common failure in F150 platform. Scheduled an appointment for repair under warranty.

Went home and hard updated Sync to latest version via USB. Issues went away and never returned. But from the sounds of it, it’s a common failure point.

Did yours happen to upgrade to 3.4 before it went out? Is your truck connected to your home WiFi?

I read the other post and it seems like they are bricked. Seems to coincidental that 3.4 was just pushed and older trucks have the older firmware.

It’s not a common problem. Sync failures are usually bricked from incompatible software.

Been reading about the Sync 3.4 platform for a while and it appears the same Sync 3 module is installed across Ford models running Sync 3. If it’s a common failure point, it can’t be just on the F-150.

I think what the dealer meant was “ah camera stuck on. Common culprit is the Sync module.”

By the way, what changed in the cameras from 2017/2018 to 2019/2020? It seems like the latter models are having camera issues. Was there an increased in resolution?

Updates are dependent on APIMs hardware level. The modules are different.

I don’t know what to tell you—you seem to know everything. I am only repeating what the service techs at a central Texas Ford dealership told me—Sync module is a common failure point. I assumed they meant on the F150 platform but it could have carried over to other platforms—I did not ask.

It was before 3.4. The rear camera stuck on was only one issue, and what was occurring when I stopped at the dealership. The splash screen would stay on. The screen would freeze and I could not change volume or functions—dead screen. Lots of problems related to the functionality of the Sync. The update fixed my problems. I have no reason to lie or embellish my story—sorry it’s not what you want to hear.

um...ok. wasn't having a go at you at all. Not sure why you think I think you are embellishing.

Did you do the 3.4 from the system upgrade or from the USB trick that was circulated around for awhile.

One thing you can try if youre still having the issue is to do a reinstall of the sync software but also do a firmware upgrade if it's compatible.

If the upgrade is done from 3.2 to 3.4 or from 3.2 to 3.3 to 3.4 without upgrading the firmware, you would see the issues you are describing.
