How Important are Tread Patterns?

Hi everyone, something I have been thinking about lately, how important are tread patterns in the sand and the dunes?

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that tread patterns aren’t as important as tread depth and tire size, as 37’s for example have more contact area with the ground than 35’s.

However, as for tread patterns specifically, does one pattern have benefits over another pattern or is it virtually the same?

Not nearly as important as airing down.
