Hot...Getting Hotter....Its Houston, but still pretty Hot

Looking for some help, lots going on....and tired of just saying "oh....its just a Ford"

so, I don't post much but I've been trying to figure out whats going on since about June of this year.

Full Vehicle Disclosure....I have the ADD Pro front bumper, FMIC, JB4 tuner S&B intake and Corsa Exhaust.

Stock everything else, Ran 37" tires for about 2 weeks....Fun Fact: Don't run 37" tires....35's are perfect.

My Problem(s) are as follows:

Overheating....I see temps, while on boost only, getting up to the 130-140 range often. is this really the FMIC blocking too much air to the radiator? what I've learned searching is that there isn't really a coolant temp sensor, but a calculation based on cylinder IR sensor....or something like that. The temps will spike on boost and drop shortly after. Its not an intake temp issue as that rarely gets hot according to the JB4 Logs.
It didn't always behave this way, for months after installing all the parts above i never noticed an issue. it wasn't until June when towing my Golf Cart that the temps started to look like an issue. It was getting really hot though and after a useless trip to MacHiak Ford (Houston), I got home and noticed my Coolant was well below min....as in none in the reservoir. The Rad Cap had a Flat spot all the way around the gasket, so 8$ later i thought i found the problem. Side note, ite smelled of coolant when i opened the hood around that time.
Fast Forward to today-ish, no smell under the hood, haven't added coolant in a while. Still getting High Temps....If i drop down a gear or 2 from 10 i don't have the issue. meaning if the revs are up a bit, the water pump is moving a bit faster and cooling works well...but why??

to complicate further, just last week i noticed a bit of coolant coming out of the engine bay. never seen it before....but Ford has its ways of pissing me off.

Literally any advise here will make my day.

TLDR: too crazy for TLDR.....Read or Dont....Thanks either way.

Is your temp gauge in Celsius or Fahrenheit ?

I do Run the SPD T-state and a FR radiator and I still have overheating under heavy driving in the sand.

My truck tends to go in to limp mode after hitting 125 Celsius.

And up to date I have not figured out why it overheats.

Isn't the JB4 tuner more of a piggyback tuner that just changes the sensors to trick the ECU into utilizing more boost? I'd try removing that and see how your temps change. Running constant high boost at low rpm can overwhelm the cooling system as it wasn't really designed for that.

On some recent hot days in California my truck was getting up to 140 as well. As it’s not overheating it is getting hot and I took it as when the digital numbers popped up it’s like a warning. Turns out my water pump went bad.

I also noticed a very small amount of coolant on the Skid plate and about as much as I can spit on the floor. Only on days I drove the truck then parked it. It would have a “cold leak” as ford called it.

Sorry about the Temp.....240F. 125C is over 250.....thats really cookin. I don't think a T Stat is the issue....it seems to work as the temps drop fast after i let off the throttle...that tells me there is still good flow, just not enough to keep up. my IATs are all good and low....my concern is flow through the IC to the Radiator or the water pump.

Yes, the JB4 is a piggy back and just manipulates the data from the sensors. Ive run it in bypass mode and unplugged from the OBD and it makes no difference.


@ScaryGary, did ford diagnose the water pump as bad? Im having the exact same problem....coolant an all.

Well it took them a day to go threw it and came back with a bad water pump. Had it changed and just drove to AZ and back in over 100* temps. Gauge never moved. when I dropped it off they said chances are water pump or the Y connector is leaking. When Warmed up and running under pressure theu won’t leak but once it sits and cools it will start to leak “cold leak”.
