Wow, total amateur hour there - pass on that debacle. All the more reason for enthusiasts to DIY by using a few cans of Amsoil HDMP at home in your driveway after purchasing at the dealer.

Hello,

I'm almost a new 2020 Raptor owner. We have agreed on price and my trade and so I've placed a deposit. Part of the deal was to put a LineX bed coating in the truck.

The truck is two states over to the west (about 5.5 hour one way) and I was headed there this weekend to pick it up.

Sales rep calls and explains that the LineX dealer thought it was also supposed to put undercoating on the truck as well. In all my years of owning vehicles (way to many to admit...) I've had one truck (Tacoma) undercoated. I do most of all my maintenance and it was a pain to work on that truck. Literally could not get underneath the truck w/o having tar somewhere on me. Plus over time/years I could see where it was starting to peel and there was moisture behind the coating (which accelerates the rust). I live in SW PA so we do get our share of salt and chemicals on the roadways. I pressure wash the undercarriages of my vehicles a few times each winter.

When he told me this I was upset even though this added service would be at no cost to me. I asked if they sprayed the aluminum lower control arms, shocks... Unfortunately it would seem they did. I'm awaiting pictures. He said they would clean them off, but I know this stuff and it will not come off w/o leaving behind residue.

This truck is pretty much exactly the spec I was looking for and being late in the year we all know ordering a new Raptor isn't in the cards.

Any current owners have their trucks undercoated? Maybe the chemicals have evolved since my 2011 Tacoma.

Thanks in advance,

And it looks like they did a poor job of it. I wouldn't accept the truck. Sucks big time I know but it's your hard earned dollars and I'd make them order a new truck. Perhaps if they reduce it 20k? wait for the Gen 3?

That's an insurance claim 100%! The dealer or the linex dealer have insurance to cover stuff like this. All of the parts can be replaced, but I would still stay away from it, unless you get a sweet deal, like a gt350 thrown in for free.

After seeing that I will no longer consider getting mine undercoated. If I would have asked for my truck to be undercoated before taking delivery and it came back looking like that, I would have tried to back out of the deal. There's honestly no excuse for doing the shocks or the front skid plate. Sorry for your situation.

Thank you everyone for the support. I agree with everyone that I should pass on the truck and that's exactly what I did. I spoke with the rep and explained that I can't accept delivery like that and he totally understood. Even though it was not their fault, he apologized on the LineX dealer's behalf. Really a great dealership and sales rep. They are refunding my deposit on my CC and sent me a follow up text asking for me to let them know when it hits (likely next 48 hours).

As fate would have it... I did another autotrader search when I saw the LineX video and knew that was not going to happen. Turns out a few other dealers received Raptors during the time of my initial search and ultimately canceling the deal (roughly 3 weeks from first contact).

One dealer only a 1/3 of the distance (and only one state over to the west) than the original had my spec plus the tail gate step and the Ford spray in bed liner which the original LineX truck did not have. I called them up... explained what happened sent them all the deal docs I had from my recent cancelled order and asked them if they could do the same. Their truck window sticker was nearly the same with the added spray in bed and tail gate step. After the first initial number email/phone call I asked if they could do the same deal as the other dealer (plus the step cost). They pointed out that this has the spray in liner and I explained with the video link...my original truck had the same put in plus the entire undercarriage which they couldn't believe happened.

About 2-3 texts later I got my truck! As a bonus the build date on the original was 11/2019 and this one is 8/2020. The other trucks that showed up on my autotrader search also had roughly the same build date. Very likely the last 2020s being delivered to the deanships.

I'm extremely happy. The 2 hour ride home was great. The width of the tuck compared to my 4Runner is pretty noticeable from the outside, however Ford did a great job with seating position and great views from the driver seat. Within about 30 minutes I was comfortable with the added girth of the truck. I had a Tundra and honestly this seems easier to navigate on narrow roads.

Surprisingly.. my 4Runner gets about 17.4 MPG (Magnuson S/C and AT tires). On the ride home the Raptor averaged 17.3 MPG... No kidding.

This is my first Ford product. Pretty bad ass looking truck and way more comfortable than my other vehicles.

Since you're in PA, have you given any thought to having it undercoated?

No. I had my 2011 Tacoma undercoated and it started to peel and you could see moisture being trapped. I use a pressure washer under the trucks a couple times over the winter when the weather allows it.

I'm curious what will happen to the other truck. Shame what happened.
