So I got an OBD2 hotspot device (Haramn Spark) that is supposed to plug into the OBD2 port - I use that port so that isn't an option. There is a special adapter that allows this device to plug into regular power and somehow trick the spark that it is connected to the OBD2 port - this works this is not the issue, just explaining what I'm doing. So, the adapter is 110v regular plug, our truck has 2 but I don't really want to use that if I can help it. So I got a 12v to 110 small inverter to plug into the 12v socket in the center console. Then I plug the OBD2 adapter into the inverter. Simple enough, everything is clean and everything works as it should except now, my battery is going dead... I have a new yellow top optima that is 3 months old, so that is not the issue. I think the issue is that the 12v power is not switching off, ever. When I came out this morning, tried to start the truck and click click click.

This has happened to me twice now since I've been running the inverter setup. Is there anyway to make the 12v shut down when the truck is off? I currently have the spark just plugged into the 110v in the back of the center console as I'm fairly sure the 110 outlets shut down when the truck shuts off.

Any help much appreciated!

How long did you leave it shut off?
A simple 12v accessory like you’re talking about shouldn’t be able to clear a car battery overnight. Your battery probably has 70aH or so of stored energy. That would power a small consumer electronic device for a LONG time.

You might have other problems if your battery is dying like that.

Either way, you could check the outlet with a DMM after you shut it off. I’m pretty sure the inverter is turned off with the key out. I’ll check mine later if you don’t get an answer.

Truck was shutoff overnight. I just tested the battery with a volt meter - off it was 12.8v and with the car running it was 13.88 so I'm guessing the alternator is good? Thought it should be 14 or a bit more but 13.88 isn't much off. Is there a simple way to test if the battery is bad? I guess it's possible I got a bunk battery? Anyway, for now I've moved the hotspot to the 110v plug and I'll roll with that and see what happens.

And because I hate to leave things unresolved, I drove the far 7 blocks to my auto zone where I got the battery to have them test it. Battery is good, charging system is good. It MUST be the 12v inverter I got or the 12v plug not shutting down.

Did you reset the bms when you replaced your battery? . You can turn off power points at ignition off with forscan. Use forscan to reset the bms. I believe you can reset the bms without forscan also, but idk how.

Bcm 726-39-01 0001 0101 006A this will turn off your power points when the ignition is off. Idk what the specs of a yellow top are but you can change settings in forscan for different batteries.
The power points usually shut off like 10 minutes or so. If you bought the yellow top that has the 6 round shapez in it then take it back . Get the h6 one , it's closer to factory specs.

Great idea, give someone unfettered wireless access to your Truck internals. What could possibly go wrong?
