Hey everyone. Not sure if this is the right place so my bad if it isn’t.

This weekend when stopping from 35 mph to a full stop, the truck seemed like it did an extremely hard downshift but overall felt like a huge clunk, when I hit the brake. I pulled into a parking lot right after and it did it again going from 10 mph. Hasn’t happened before or again.

Took it in and got a p1867 code. My mechanic said he would research it and bring it back next week.

Has anyone had this happen before? Is the code related?

It’s a 2010 with 88,000 miles.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any thoughts!

DTC definition is as follows:

P1867:00 — Transfer Case Contact Plate General Circuit Failure: No Sub Type Information
Fault sets when an invalid shift motor position is detected during selection of a new 4WD mode or during a motor movement. If the shift motor is not moving, shift motor movement will be prevented. If the shift motor is moving when this DTC sets, the shift motor will move to the high-side mechanical stop.

If you weren't changing between 2WD/4WD, it may have been a previously set DTC unrelated to the issue. Did you notice if the concern occurred during a downshift?

There was a recall on the driveshaft for late 2010's. I had mine done a few years back, also, when I had a clunk like that, they had to lube up the yoke on the driveshaft and that solved the problem. Maybe you could hold your phone out the window next time and record the sound.

Thanks. I’ll look into that. Today it did the reverse I was slowing down on the freeway, then sped up and got on it a bit and it shifted up super hard. Pretty annoying. If I was quick enough to get a recording I would but I have no idea when it’ll happen.

If it is not happening all the time ( same scenario) when you are slowing down, then I doubt it is the driveshaft, but it wouldn't hurt to lube up the yoke all the same. Maybe its something in the transmission, hope not though.
