I wanted to take a peek at the transfer case since I saw a bit of oil. So I take the skid plate off.

I read somewhere here that the u-nuts can be finicky.

Of course, I snap the last one. I cursed Ford’s name.

Lucky I was able to hold the backside with an open end wrench through the frame hole. Then played Operation to get the other half out with a magnet.

Don’t use an impact or cordless ratchet. Gonna get some extras in case.

Even after multiple warnings about Mr Lube I let them remove my aftermarket skid plates for oil changes, of course they ripped the nuts apart and then just bent the skid to allow access then when I noticed bolts loose I paid $190 for a mechanic to cut the bolts and fix things up, no more Mr Lube for me.

You should know better than to trust a place like that. Well, I guess you do now. We all want to trust people, but some are just useless even with good intentions and then just make excuses afterwards. Sorry it happened to you.

yup I was dumb, the thing is they broke the nuts and didn’t say anything, at least tell the customer when you break something I wouldn’t have been angry, I see another thread about the nuts breaking I wonder if it only happens when using power tools?

I’d trust my car to a grade 9 over Mr.Lube.

That's OK, I had a GMC dealer dent the door on my last pickup when I went in for a recall.
Never said anything to me and when I brought it to his attention, he acted like he didn't know about it, but agreed to fix it. I try to avoid letting others work on my vehicles whenever I can.

Even after multiple warnings about Mr Lube I let them ...

Back in '86, I had Jiffy Lube change the oil in my differentials, tranny, and transfer case. This was back before the lawyers got everyone running scared and they let me into the pit. I stopped the musclehead from taking out one of the bolts on the side of the transfer case and pointed out the drain plug. These guys are not rocket surgeons.

A car club member brought his STi to Mr. Lube for an oil change. The “tech” dropped the oil in the transmission/centre diff - the trans drain plug is open and not covered by the splash shield.

Overfilled the oil in the engine and nothing in the transmission. You can imagine the result.

Sometimes I think I’m crazy for rolling around on my garage floor wrenching on the cars but not after all the stories.

Back in the day when I was doing outside sales I used those Jiffy ****** places. The last time I ever used one they told me that my rear diff was low on oil. I clarified the rear diff? He said yes. It was a front wheel drive car.
