I just traded my 2013 in last week. NADA clean trade was $29875 in my location. It needed a windshield, running boards were peeling, dent in the tailgate, a few other blemishes with 84,*** miles and they gave me $29k. Not to mention it's been through 7 winters in the rust belt. I felt that was fair. I did get the impression they were looking for used raptors after talking with the salesperson. I have a feeling they already had a buyer for it.

Back to the OP's question about the market conditions.
It seems like the Market is strong here in TX. on clean Gen 1's. They range from $29 to 42 for a 13-14 depending on milage and extras. I have also noticed that the Gen 2 has slid considerably in the opposite direction. Saw a couple 17's for $46-47

I've had private offers of $45 for my 14 Roush with 117k on it.
But I guess when you look at what it would cost to add the SC and all the suspension parts, $45 might be a deal..lol

buying vehicles in general is considered a bad investment. especially new. depreciation is a killer. (mr obvious at your service) i purchased my 13 at the end of 2012 as a special order for 44k otd. completely stock scab. i think its one of the best financial decisions i ever made. just based on the enjoyment factor. 60k miles and going strong. not a day goes by i dont look forward to crawling in and firing up the v8. not sure what i could get for it today but i dont really care. its a little modded out but nothing extreme. i just dont see anything out there i would rather own and drive than my raptor

buying vehicles in general is considered a bad investment. especially new.

Unless you buy a collectible, vehicles are not investments, period. They're a depreciating asset with a large tech component. That component becomes obsolete ever more quickly since tech is improving at an exponential rate. Gen 1 might be low tech enough to hold more value longer term. Maybe. It wouldn't surprise me to see them worth more than gen 2s 10 years from now when all the gen 2 bells and whistles are hopelessly dated. I won't care because I'll be driving a gen 4. :D

Carmax offered me a lower amount and I showed them it was worth more then their offer. They increased their offer by 2k after I said that. I'd recommend not accepting the first offer.

Unusual that they went down that road - they usually are pretty firm in their "take it or leave it" stance.

Seems to me the pricing varies greatly by location. A month ago I did a search while being bored and found a handful of 13s/14s with under 50k miles with the asking price in the low to mid 40's.

Mostly dealers. And not sure how much markup they threw on top of trade in.

I have been asked at the dealer I go to if I would want to trade it in but never bothered with the quote. Figure no point now until the TRX/Gen 3 coil comes out.


I would go private party. And IMO avoid a X3M with a kid. It's a nice small SUV, but with a newborn/rear facing/smaller trunk, you'll run out of space quick. We had one before my first born and upgraded to a Durango R/T.

And maybe it's old train of thought but I got my wife a full frame truck before we had our second kid and I traded in a SRT Jeep for this Raptor last year. I want a bunch of mass and a full frame if possible when transporting my kids. Too many idiots down here texting and driving.

They are all money pits, but some depreciate a WHOLE lot less than others.

Gen 1 Raptors will hold way more of their initial cost vs a Gen 2 Raptor (or ANY other truck in the hsitory of this planet) at all points in it's life.

The 6.2L is still in production for the current Super Duty trucks.

Still going strong after a decade, while the 3.5 H/O will go down as Fords most unreliable and most undesirable motor in it's history.
