Anyone done the TransAmerica Trail?

My wife and I have to tow a U-Haul out to NYC for my youngest daughter (law school). We'd like to "overland" back to Utah in the Raptor. For us, "overlanding" means traveling hotel to hotel on dirt roads as much as possible so we get a new view of the country.

that was referenced in several overlanding articles on various website. Anyone have any experience with this? Looks like it might be meant for adventure motorcycles and not big trucks.

If that website isn't recommended, any suggestions on how to map a mostly off-road course across the country?

i think i have maps somewhere. one of our members did it on their dual sport bikes. he said just about every trail could fit the truck. we are still planning on a transamerica trail run in the next year or two as well.

I ran the trail from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to my home in Utah. Just finished a week and a half ago. I recorded most of my track on Gaia GPS, and took several pictures, so I'll post details as soon as I can figure out how to download the thing. Getting caught up on work now.

I have to say, the trip was fantastic. Once in a lifetime experience for my wife and I. The Raptor handled everything just fine. We ended up crossing several creeks up to maybe 2 feet deep, had many opportunities for high speed drifting, got air several times, pulled out of the way two massive trees blocking two different roads, crossed two mountain summits above the treeline...Sam Correa (I think it's Transamericatrail.com) has done a nice job creating the tracks. We used his track almost exclusively.

How long did it take you to go from NC to Utah?

I did portions of it in North Carolina, but ended up going a bit further south onto the Georgia Traverse Trail. Rejoined it in Oklahoma and Kansas before leaving it for good in New Mexico.

Not gonna lie, I was on it under similar circumstances (my truck was loaded to the gills since I was moving), but there is no ******* way you'll be able to bring a Uhaul trailer.

Funny part is that some of it is marked legal roads. Leads to some funny interactions like this bit where there people pulled up in a sedan to a water crossing.

Anyone done the TransAmerica Trail?
